Explain the advantage of a 30 MM VS 1 inch scope tube?
« on: March 20, 2010, 08:55:02 PM »
30 MM or 1 inch tube on scopes?  Is there any advantage of having one or the other? I knew since the 30 MM measurement is metric that it's more of a foreign favored scope. American scopes, sold in the American market are 1 inchers.

Could a 30 MM tube be a pain since you might need special rings too?

The 30mm tube will give you more click adjustments. The 30mm scopes will gathers light better and the sight picture will be clearer. Most of the  military sniper scopes is are now using the 30mm tubes. You only see a large impact if you are shooting long range at precision targets. I prefer the 30mm tubes for my 700 to 1000 yard groundhog hunting.

Depends on what you are using scope. For normal hunting the 1 inch tube will do fine. At night when i hunt predators there is a big difference in using a 1 inch tube vs 30mm tube.
