Some people like offset jaws and some do not. Meaning about the rifle is no two people like the same rifle or bullet. Just like you believe it is the rifle shooter not the gun. See it was an option. So I was  useing the rifle reference that there is not one trap type offset or not offset there will be a lot of different opions.

The Bridger #2 is a great choice.   I've caught a lot plenty of them here and in Illinois with them without an issue.  As far as the offset jaw goes, everyone has there ideas of what is better.   I use them both.  The only time I have seen an issue with offset is on gray fox.  I personally found a little more damage on them at times.  My thought is the offset allowed their leg to slide a little back and forth.  Don't get me wrong, it was minimal, but it seemed that way.  All my traps are base plated with center swivels, laminated and 4 coiled now, which has eliminated most any movement, offset or not.  Of course someone will jump in and say I'm full of it, and probably am, so that ok.

Do yourself a favor and join the Pennsylvania Trappers Association.  They have several of training classes throughout the year and conventions to get you supplies and ask questions.

Nice to see your input. I am not much of a trapper, I just shoot critters any more. But this year I have some number #3 traps to mess with.
The big traps are all new to me. But have read some good stuff about them.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to slap anyone (buckwheat) and I understand everyone has their own opion. I just want to give my daughter a good chance so asking you all for help gives her a head start. I think I have my trap selection narrowed down to the bridger #2 dogless.?

I never thought you were being a smart ass.
Goosebumps just likes to make everthing into a joke. Expecially on an old mink trapper like me.
I like the looks of dogless traps even though i never used them.  I like the idea of more pan area. I always ask Hern for his input on my methods and traps. He can be tight lipped but what can be prayed out of him is worth it.
Like trapping John said go to some events and pick up ideas. Even there everybody has a different idea on what, how and when to use stuff. It can be a life long leaning experience and you will still have questions when they kick dirt in on ya.

I completely understand Goose and again I apperciate all the input from everyone. This is as new to me as it is for my daughter and 7 year old son who im sure will be tagging along. Im sure I will have a few more questions in the future. I try to keep my kids in the woods and on the water so their not on the streets!

My kids are 15 and 18 now, and are most times too busy for Dad, but these are memories we'll never forget.  Take lots of pics and enjoy the time together

Where about do you live in Lycoming County I live outside of Salladasburg I know you could do some trapping in my area I do a lot of calling through the winter maybe we could get together do some calling.
