Never give up
« on: November 14, 2011, 09:11:51 AM »
Went out the other night when it was full moon.Stopped at a spot I had hit earlier in the year and saw nothing. This time as I walked in and crested a hill I picked up eyes at about 300 yards staring at me.I kept the light on it  as I proceeded another 20 yards to a fence post which was the only available cover.I started to call and continued to call for the next 15 minutes. The fox just would not move. Finally the fox apparently had enough and started to slowly get farther away looking back every so often. After throwing several sounds his way with no change in his retreat I was not giving up but was running out of options. So about the 400 yard mark I broke into a frantic bird distress. To my surprise the critter had a change of heart and proceeded to run towards me at a very hurried pace.At about 90 yards he stopped and I ended it there.Unfortunately the fox had the beginning stages of mange. But it just goes to prove that as long as you have a visual theres always hope. This scenario lasted almost 25 minutes until the shot was fired.

Nice.  Was that the same fence post you and I sat at?
"Predators are either active & feeding, semi-active & callable, or utterly inactive & then practically speaking, no call is needed; we're just taking our guns for a walk. We can & should get used to it, & follow their leed cuz they just ain't eager nor apt to follow our’s any time soon!
