there is an electronic calling machine that way back when use to have Sounds like leaves rustling, flopping around!  I use to think how stupid to have sound effects when they can have calling food sounds on or distress sounds...

I remember twice now... I was calling on a farm... I had the FoxPro Fury hanging in a tree.. I was playing the woodpecker distress for a long period of time..it was time to quit.. I shut it off and I start to walk the  50 yards over to the tree to retrieve it... As I walked there was quite a few leaves on the ground and you could hear me go swush swush swush etc etc as I walked over. All of a sudden a coyote comes running at me from the upwind side.. Again hang the caller in a tree,, playing a food sound, quit and I'm walking over to retrieve it and again  another coyote came running right at me from the upwind side...it was almost like it honed in on my sound walking over to the tree where the food sound was coming from..

I now own the Alpha Dogg... It has leaves rustling on it and other sound effects of game thrashing around.. I have yet to use those sounds at the end... I know one thing... There is theory and facts when people rattle stuff off about calling.. I now believe that sounds on electronics of rustling leaves could help call in critters.. In my two instances it was coyotes that came running right at me...However it was the electronic sounds making the rustling leaves it was me just going to get my electronics from the tree...

Alpha Dogg has that kind of sounds on now.. Also that caller that looked like the JS Preymaster that's the one I use to think it was stupid...

As we all know... You take the Mr. Squirrel Whistle   and do a high pitched whistle of a baby squirrel and then you slam down or slap bushes on the ground to make every squirrel go nuts in the trees above..Hey if that can work on a squirrel it might work on your electronics for coyotes.. Just trigger the last few minutes with the leaves thrashing or the hops of the critters...
They do have that sound of a squirrel cracking nuts call and you can do that with two quarters too...

This one is one is one for debate that's for sure.. Is it theory or is sound effects of leaves thrashing fact that will call in predators?????????????????????????????

I don't know if leaves thrashing alone will call in predators. I would definitely believe that thrashing leaves can add some depth and realism into a calling sequence. If you have the capability of playing two sounds at once, like cottontail distress and leaves thrashing, you would probably have a recipe for success. JMO.   I do like the way your mind works  UB

By the way the use Mr. squirrel to have every squirrel in the tree tops go nuts and exposed themselves...nope not perverted squirrels exposing themselves... That slam of a a branch against the ground is suppose to simulate a hawk grabbing the young squirrel.. You actually can do this with plastic grocery bags to.  make it sound like wing beats coming down just after you do the Mr. Squirrel whistle. Ah the Mr. Squirrel Whistle... probably could call predators with that whistle too..

Big cat.  I'm going to look into that as well. If I come up with an answer I'll let you know.  That's a sound I want to add to my foxpro for sure.

By the way on my FoxPro FX2 I have the Star Spangled Banner sung by Alabama.

The bugle playing by Randy Anderson: Taps, The Charge, and Reveille.

I have Randy singing COME IN LITTLE COYOTE COME IN.

Your computer should have a MIC on it where Accessories show up on the menu.  I loaded my sounds into the MIC female jack and recorded the sound then using the FoxPro program I overlaid it to my FoxPro FX2..


You may ask why I have those sounds above on my FoxPro.. See when someone bust you in the the daytime and come hunting you like your the coyote.. I hit one of the sounds above.. Oh you should see their face when they hear the bugle charge or the Star Spangled Banner start to play..

I was at the fox pro predator seminar given by Abner last weekend at  a sports show .Somebody addressed that very question about background noises such as leaves,twigs etc.. if they thought of adding those sounds to their sound library. He said it wasn't something they were working on however it is something they could look in to adding in the future.  So keep a look out you maybe able to someday get them from Fox pro. If enough people contact them showing interest it could be sooner than later,can't imagine it'd be real hard for them to conjure up a few sounds with the resources and technology they have

Great thread guys! I think anything to add realism to a sequence is worth it..So, it sounds like you could record rustling sounds at home over a mic and onto your computer than load to your call...I know the Shockwave can play any two sounds at once and at independent volume levels of each other..think that would be an ideal feature for a distress/rustling combo..plus there is the FoxPitch feature too..however, for me, the e-calling is on hold temporarily..I did a number on my Shockwave last evening..rip the wires clean out when I fell waist deep in a drift..the critters could walk on top but not this guy..kicker is I didn't realize til I went to turn the call on :o......

Sorry to hear of the wire being torn on your caller.. the JS Tape Player with the battery inside.. I learned fast to never walk from Point A to Point B with the speaker jack plugged into the calling unit.. I had to have a friend resolder the inside of the JS electronics...

Now we do have to watch that your sounds don't scare the animals away too..  Just remember when retrieving your callers from the field that you motion or noise walking over to it after a food sound was playing could bring in a predator right at you.. Ah the times to have the shotgun instead of the Encore rifle..

However let look at predators... Predator the fish can be caught with lures that have rattles and bb's and sound effects in it.. The thrashing of a wounded fish does bring the predator the fish for a free meal too..

I love doing this:  I read about this in a book and I tried it...The deer the mammal has 4 legs.. when it walks through the woods it's 1 step, 2 step, 3 step, 4 step and stop.. see it has 4 legs.. So I like to take my rifle during deer season and walk through a woodlot with the wind in my face and that's what I do.. 1 step, 2 step, 3 step, and 4 step and then I stop and wait for about  20 seconds to 30 seconds and repeat it again..1, 2, 3, 4 step stop.   1, 2, 3, 4th step stop.. I have acutally killed big doe doing this... All of a sudden the deer will rise up from it 's bed and will look right at you and you throw that gun up to your shoulder find it in the scope and BANG!!!  So nice to do this with a  3006 Encore 24 inch barrel and the  35 Rem Model 336.  Next deer season try it.. It really makes you feel good that you stalked the animal.. made it sound like you were just another deer walking through the woods like the one your hunting.. Now human walk 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 stop to gov over a log  1, 2, 3, 4,.. those deer know that's not another deer!!!
