snow and cold...
« on: January 03, 2014, 04:03:09 PM »
Any one going out tonight and this weekend?

Areas I work over with extreme cold and snow cover...
I feel the Canines will be running the ice. Any frozen water, small and big cricks, ponds and shelf ice on rivers and lakes.
Wind swept areas certainly get called.
Also Pine stands and other sheltered places.

Also any combination of the above areas will increase your odds. Such as, a frozen crick near a Pine stand or frozen crick near or thur a wind swept area.
Good luck to all of you folks...

100x...
I use military longjohns for years. Love 'em.
I have light-weight, medium-weight and heavy-weight.
Having 3 different weight longjohns really fits my needs from early fall to winter to early spring.

After ordering some things over the years from Dakota Outerwear, funny thing I was in Minot, N.D.  2-3 years ago and visited this place. Not much of a store, but huge mail order business...

Here's a site our son gave me along time ago. He says military guys order from them.
Check 'em out, good folks...

The best stuff we got in the infantry was when they issued us the under armor style cold weather under garments.  Honestly the thing that makes you cold is your own sweat. That is why after walking to a set with heavy winds you feel colder.  The best stuff wicks the sweat from your skin.  Its a pain, but when driving between sets, I always take off my heavy coat, gloves, and hat.  A few minutes before reaching a set I turn my heat off in the truck and I only run it high enough to keep my windows clear.  I might not be a good predator hunter, but I had plenty of practice surviving different elements.  You would be surprised at how little I wear even on a negative night.  Condition your body and mind and you won't feel as cold, until you crawl in bed with your lady and feel how warm she is.

Now that the storm has moved out and the sun is shinning bright today,  I'm going to brave the cold tonight and give it a whirl.  We'll see how long  I can last in the single digit temps they are calling for.

Made 7 stands ...called in 1 coyote...made a set-up in location that was THICK...figuring gray fox running up access road right into me..well Mr Yote arrive 10min into it, crossed road from thick to thick, old guy to slow for shot....I was expecting much better...but sometimes these things happen and you get blanked..and I use that military mid weight good stuff, when you sweat it wicks it away unlike cotton which will freeze you....
