coyote bait?
« on: September 11, 2013, 02:23:44 PM »
I tried using the search but it didn't work. I see we are allowed to bait yotes in pa. What kind of stuff do you use for bait besides roadkill?

Get permission to hunt on chicken farms! The farmer usually throws out dead chickens on a pile! I know a guy that has killed two coyotes by doing this! He doesn't even call. He sit in a folding lawn chair with blankets and just waits for coyotes to come to bait pile!
Coyotes once they eat something! They get to like the taste of it and return to these sites nightly!
What can be on a coyote bait pile? Everything! They are omnivores! They eat everything! From grasshoppers to cow flops and everything in between! I have had coyotes mark my composted matter!  Just start to throw everything at a bait sight! Don't litter! Not paper and such! Get permission from the farmer too if your going to go this! If I lived out in the boonies and could shoot out my back door I 'd start an open compost pile! Remember meat and dairy products could become stinky if animals don't consume it!

I've had them come into deer ribs and other meats hung from a tree high enough were the coons couldn't eat it but all they did was circle the bait a few times and leave after they knew it was there. I've  had good luck with cheap dog food from Walmart, 40-50 lb bag for $20. I spread a jug of food out every day and wait for the trail cam to tell me what direction they come from, time, and how many. I got over 50 pics in one night of two dogs eating the dog food last week. If the coons make it there first they will clean u out but sometimes the coyotes will be there first and u can get some great pictures with a trail cam and have a good spot to hunt.

I have a pig farmer in my area.  He also puts the baby pigs that die on a pile and covers them with saw dust.  Even the fox like a ham diner.

Sometimes if you check with your local butcher, you can get all the bones you want from them.  They make good bait.

personally I'd rather take my chances calling different areas looking for them than to sit over a bait pile hoping they'll show up.
