Scanning Light
« on: July 03, 2013, 12:50:38 PM »
I am in the market for a scanning light. I would like to know what everyone is using for a scanning light, and how they like it.

Does the beam shine out a good distance?

I like Coyote Light. One light does both jobs for me.

Yes and it adjusts, flood to throw, for tighter stands you can really spread the beam out.
Also it has a high and low setting

Hang in there until September and there will be much better scanning lights on the market.

With the way lights are improving I would wait till it was closer to the season. I have heard there is going to.be some new  and better lights on the market before to long.

Its amazing how far technology has come with lights.  How much lighting is enough and how much is not enough???   Why be able to see a fox at 500 yards, if you can't shoot (hit) him out that far.... I'm speaking personally here.   If he's going to come in, be patient.   With todays lights, most are bright enough to be within shooting range if they are within seeing range....

Can we reach a point where we have overkill for light brightness???

Just a topic to kick around during the off season.....

I was using the coyote light but now with the new carnivore headlight that is out on the market I will be using it as my main scanning lite. With the carnivore on low it is as bright as the coyote light is on high so if you want the brightest scanning light out there get the carnivore headlight. http://EWCALLS.COM

Misterjake I want to be able to see a fox out as far as possible even if its to far to shoot at . By watching it come in you can learn a lot and also when it does get within shooting range you will be ready . No quick shot that could result in a miss or even worst a bad placement and it only being a wound.

Jeff...I just purchased one of the headlights from EW.....I love it.  Season can't come soon enough.  This is actually the first headlamp I've used.  I use to use just a hand held light for scanning.

I couldn't find an image of the headlamp on EW's website. I just bought another headlamp from Boondock Outdoors for $60. It' made by Noxx and is very capable and for the price it would make a great primary or back up light.

When you are in this game long enough you will eventually want the best.  ewcalls.com is a great place to start.  Don't buy outdated technology.
