chainsaw ?

anyone have any suggestions on a good chainsaw brand and model # that I can use to cut firewood all day long without any trouble? seems the stihl guys love thier stihls and the husky people love their husky's so i'm not sure what to go with. friend says he can get me a brand new stihl ms290 for $300, so right now if i'm buying a new one i'm leaning towards that. I do what something that is going to last and not have to be fixed up every few years. Any suggestions from you long time firewood cutters out there???

I have a Stihl that has never let me down. I've had it for 14 years and it always starts and never needs anything but the chain sharpened.

i have owned both and i like the husky.  i have had problems with the stihls but i guess they have fixed the problems with them.  the only thing i dont like about the new saws is that the EPA put new regulations on them.  unless you buy a "pro" model which is twice as much you dont get the performance out of them.

the husky starts every time and revs higher.  the stilh had more power.  i had the stilh 026 and the husky 350.

My Dad used to cut timber full time. He started out with stihls and used them until he tried a Husky. After that he switched to huskys and never bought a stihl after that. A lot of timber cutters I know only use huskys after trying them both. Of course thats what I use and have to of them and they love to cut wood and can run all day. Never had a problem. My brother-in-law went the other route and bought two new stihls 3 years ago. They worked great for about a year, but now he has put more money into them than they cost and they still don't work or cut right. Just my two piece and of course I am influenced by my Dad's experience. I do believe that you should seriously consider a husky based on the fact that a lot of guys that cut timber use them and recommend them. I have only cut firewood for 4 years, so my experience is limited but my two huskys love to cut wood...

I cut for firewood purposes so here is my 2¢... The lower end Huskys are made by Poulan, the upper two models are still made by Husky. I am a Stihl man I've used Poulan and consider them a disposable saw, use it then throw it away.....I have an old 032 Stihl and a two year old 290 that I swear by.

Just like anything else that is on the market, there are good and not so good.  With Stihl the odd # saws ie; 250, 290, 310 are home owner saws if you are cutting occasionally these will work fine.  If you are heating with wood and cutting a couple cord a year go with the even # saws 260, 260 pro, 280 and my favorite "big" saw the 360, 361 and the new 362.   The Huskies are good saws as well but in the past they have had major problems with their anti-vibration handles breaking, do not know if that issue has been resolved as we quit selling them a couple of years ago due to this problem. 1 out of 3 saws sold were back for repairs.  All that said, I use an "old" Poulan pro that I would not trade for any of them
