Rattlesnake hunting

Anyone hunt snakes.  Can you tell I'm bored as heck today?  Need a break in the weather.  Its been mostly snow up here with sleet and rain mixed in.  Looking at these pics makes me want spring to get here even faster.....

I went last year with LookN4fur and a few others,
I would have felt more comfortable with snake boots that went up to my neck, or had lifeflight circling our location.
This year, I may be a little braver, we'll see

Any idea how to tan a rattlesnake skin? I got a huge diamond back skin from texas?

I hunt all over the northern tier for timbers.  Diamondbacks are not in PA.  That one was from Florida.

Tack it out on a board with the skin side down.  Remove any meat and fat by scraping it with a spoon.  COVER it with borax and RUB it in as this will remove any oil and fat that you could not get with spoon.  Change borax as needed....  Let dry.  Buy a spray can of clear poly and spray after it has thoroughly dried.  Use multiple coats covering all areas.  I have found it easier to hang the hide when doing this or just do a side at a time.

Nice Pics.  I hunt them all the time.  It's my second favorite thing to do other than call predators.  Sounds like it may be the only thing to hunt up your way since the big poaching bust.  I have a good friend that lives in Bradford.  Maybe You and I and some others can get together and do some snake hunting up your way.  Lyme disease slowed me down a little last year.

Man that sounds like alot of fun. I keep some snakes here at the house but haven't handled any hot snakes. Would love to hunt em.
