Snow Fox
« on: February 22, 2011, 03:13:48 PM »
I awoke last night about 130am, I thought well I might as well get up and see if the kids had a school delay due to the overnight snow. I live in suburbs in about a 100 home development somewhat rural with wooded ravines nearby. We have a lot of windows in our house and with all the snow there was no need to turn on any lights. I reached the kitchen and decided to take a gander out into the back yard to look at the snow. As I am standing there a very nice Red fox goes running by about 40 yards from my house running the width of my yard. I watched as the fox ran off and decided to slightly open the sliding glass door. At about 80 yards I gave the old red a lip squeak on the back of my hand and it turn on a dime back in my direction. After trotting about 15 yards I gave the red another lip squeak and started running full bore in my direction. It stopped short off my house by about 15 yards and was standing behind a small Frazier fir I just planted last year. After about 5 minutes the red started off in the other direction again. I just stood there and watched the majestic animal trot across the freshly laid snow. I thought well that was worth getting out bed for and it simply amazed me that with a little lip squeak I turned that red around from a pretty good distance.

Pretty Cool! I miss living in a rural setting. Used to see that kind of stuff regularly.

That is was cool for sure, The lip squeak is the best call on all predators.
For a brief moment I could hear nature through all the noise.

That sound has killed a ton of critters. Anybody that has hunted for a wile has used that sound to get critters to come that last few yards for a shot.
For a brief moment I could hear nature through all the noise.

Buckwheat

I have hunted for many years deer, turkey, bear, grouse but within the last year started hunting foxes and coyotes. I certainly can believe that sound would put them to rest from what I have seen.

What is so neat with that sound is..Here is the scenario:  You called in the fox you shut your scanning light off and turn your shooting light on your rifle... The rifle is setting in the rifle rest... The fox can't see you now.. your hiding right behind that red 250 Kill Light!!!!You need it closer and just a few lip squeals causes that red to start running right at you.. Instead of a 250 yard shot you get yourself a 70 yard shot.. However oh wee sometimes they can cover that 250 yards to the 70 yard mark within 3 seconds.... Something to experience that's for sure...yep it be the lip squeal that does it to them too....
