How far should i place my buddy from my location of calling? Meaning should he be 100yds away from me watching downwind or even farther? How far are these things gonna wanna circle downwind?

I think it depends on how pressured they are.
Are you hunting at night or day?

100 yards should be good enough unless they are pressured hard. Depends on the terrain. Set your buddy up at a place where he can see good and where a cautious coyote would naturally wonder into his lap responding to your call.
