red dot scope

my night shooting isnt what it once was , i was wondering if anyone on here uses a reddot at night and does it help?

I put one on my mossberg, late in the season, but called nothing in to try it out on

I have an Holosight on my BPS 12 gauge.. It's been on there a long time and is one of the first that was manufactured way back when...I have mixed emotions about my Holosight... If I see the fox coming into my calling from afar they are pretty much dead...However if they appear real close out of no where I have missed a lot of them using my -particular Holosight.. So I don't truly like mine for that reason.

Now since then things have changed...if the Holosight is better then let say 15 years ago it might be OK..Also there are so many on the market now...If you could just find that right one........Then it might work for close quarter shooting.

Thing of it is if I would have just used the old non-hightech illuminated front sight...Many of those fox called in close when I had the Holosight on would have also been killed...

So I just like to go low tech now when it comes to shotgunning.....

I have hunted Turkey & Canines with Aim Point (red dot) scope for 12 or 13 years.
I love it. I feel it's improved my aim and getting on critter much faster.
I feel it's an advantage for me. No line'n up shotgun bead or crosshairs. The red dot is easy to see. Red dot is outstanding at night.

Day or Night red dot is there, just put it on 'em and fire.
Even bright, sunny days.

my next one is going to be the Mueller, it has an automatic adjusting brightness along with a manual, 4 different dots or crosshairs and is under 100 bucks.

I recently talked to one of the Muller distributors.... If this Muller is called a Kwik Point or Quick Point then he did say that many predator hunters do like it on their shotgun.

I can not see why you would not like it. You may even kick yourself for not purchasing one years ago.

I use a TRUGLO on my Rem 870...it has both red and green dots depending on which way you turn the dial..the red for nite and the green for early morning and late evening dusk...works great..

i have a 870 also, do you have to have it drilled and tapped? also i hand hold a nightlight head with my thumb and first finger and just lay the barral of the gun across the other 3 fingers when i shoot, will the red dot show well while useing a red light? ive been fox hunting a long time but recently been missing too much, i think my eyes are getting older, at least thats my excuse

Drill and tap is no biggie.
Not sure what mounts are required, I would check with local gun dealer.
Personally don't like 'see thru' mounts.

Yes, you can see red dot at night with red lens light.

Suggest that your shooting light be placed on a 1 inch dowel rod or a broom handle or mount it on the underside of the barrel...If you use a head light for your shooting light with a red dot scope,  it shoots a glare down your inside of the red dot scope..You can compensate for this of course by putting a hood on the head light so it shoots over the red dot scope... Nothing worse then getting ready to shoot and then you do see the red dot because of glare from the head light shooting down the inside of the red dot scope.....

No wonder I like going low tech instead of high tech...

   They make a saddle that uses thee existing pin holes of your 870 and "it is so easy to instal that Hern could do it" and yes there is no problem seeing the red dot, or you could use the green if it posed a problem for you...simple set up and it works great
