Wow,now I know of someone who has taken a yote with a .17 HMR.  ;D I figured it would have to be a head shot.

Still would be my very last choice of calibur (and .22 lr) for hunting a yote with.

DAVID: I know they are not deer.  ???   I know of yote that had gone a 100-150 yards after being hit with a 30-06 deer rifle until it keeled over dead.

Put it this way,as hard as it is to call in a Pa yote, and even harder to get a good shot at it after it's called in, your setting your self up for a big disappoinment using a .17 HMR if you do not shoot it 100% EXACTLY where it needs to be shot. You will most likley never recover it.

I also killed a coyote with a 17hmr. Last November. 60 yards, in the throat. He ran a little but still died. My last 3 fox's this season were with the same gun. It's not the best choice true, but in some counties it's either that or a shotgun. Only rim fire in Allegheny county. I had a 22 mag but I sold it because they have been known to travel after hitting something. The 17hmr will frag and not bounce.

David, not a problem bud  ;) , I wasn't taking you to be mean, it's all good. Just trying to give you some sound advice. Good luck to ya.

Dang Mutt! Now i know of 2 people that have taken yotes with a .17HMR.  ;D  I'm in the same boat as you also, I live in Montgomery county which is SRA also. I too am restricted to shot gun and rimfire only. I pretty much strickly use the 12 gauge. Don't own a .22 MAG yet,but have been looking into getting one. I have a couple I can borrow if need be.

I pretty much only hunt for yotes up at my place In Tioga county or my father-inlaws place in Bedford county. Ive got a beed on a couple of places around here that are holding coyotes, but havn't gone after them yet. Will most likley use the 12 gauge with #4 buck anyway instead of the .22 MAG for them around here.

T.O. I have heard of a couple of guys that have taken them with the .22 MAG in the past. Good job!
