git yer butt outta bed hunt.
« on: January 31, 2010, 09:52:50 AM »
This weekend was a busy one for me.  Friday I went to a local bar to listen to a friends band play.  Saturday was spent making over 700lbs of sausage.  Me and Lifes2fun was supposed to go out hunting last night but with not getting done till late on the butchering I called it off.  This morning I wake up at 7:30 log on and see no one said they killed anything for the hunt.  I said what the heck it can't hurt to get out and make a few stands this morning.  I quickly got dressed and decided to go to a honey hole.  Same place I have killed greys over the years and killed my coyote.   I set the foxpro out and climbed the ladder stand.  I started off with some bird distress on a lil pekker.  after a few minutes I switched to JS grey fox pup.  Three minutes in and here one comes running down the rock wall.  Oh yeah I think to myself.  I rearranged the .223 to get a better shot and while moving he took a detour not usual of fox that come in like this.  He turned across the top of the mountain and then doubled back on himself.  and started back up over the rock wall.  My lips were too dry for a lip squeek so I kept the cross hairs on him.  He stopped to look back to the call 75 yds up the mountain.  I clicked the safety off and squeezed the trigger.  At the report of the gun I seen him tumble off the log he was standing on.  I racked another in and watched the spot for a few seconds to confirm he was down and I sat the stand till the end of the cycle.  Nothing else came in so I decided to call it a morning.

The point of this post is to tell you fellas ya can't kill em sitting at home.  Even more so when you are in a hunt don't stop at the two minute warning.  Thats a pretty good stand to kill ratio.  One stand and one kill  ;D

how heavy you think that fox is?  he sure was a big mountian grey.  he is a male and shot him with a .223.  big entrance and small exit.  not sure how that works.  ???

that's the fur mobile/daily driver/4x4 rig.  I like it so far.  it was nice to have going around in the mountains and it gets over 20 mpg.  I think I have all the bugs worked out in it now.  needs new tires this spring yet and that should be it for a while.  I need to figure out a way to put dead critters inside without getting blood on the carpet.  I was gonna do the plastic box thing that I have seen many do.  but I think i am gonna settle for a hitch carrier with a box on it.  fur season is almost over so I am not to worried this year.  I plan on hunting this weekend yet and that's it.
