Earlier statewide hunt
« on: February 04, 2009, 01:15:31 PM »
I think it would be a good idea to have the hunt
earlier, around Thanksgiving.
The weather should be better
less educated critters
More members would get involved
Just a suggestion

we talked about that two meetings ago.  the officers wanted to see how this one went before continuing it.

I would like to see it earlier as well. The weekend following the last day of archery would be awesome. Coons are still out and about in the warmer months but fox hunting during the breeding season is great as well. But earlier than this year's hunt would be a blessing.

I like that time frame too...we may still be buried in snow here in the Northwest, but it won't be 3 1/2 feet. Keep in mind the archery season varies throughout the state, but for most of us it will close on November 14. (In WMUs 2B, 5C and 5D it opens back up on the 16-28) Also muskrat season opens up on the 21. Anybody that usually hits the rats hard on opening day isn't likely to participate. Of course those dates are still tentative and won't be finalized until April.

With that being said...I would like to see it moved to November 20, 21 & 22 with the same start and finish times.

How does everybody else feel about that?

Steve

Not me...I might be heading to Maine for some eider hunting but no bears. I don't have a date set for that hunt yet anyway, so I can work around that. I would prefer the last day of archery myself...the 14th, but I thought everybody wanted to leave the last day of archery alone.

It doesn't really matter what weekend we hold it that time of year. There are going to be some guys that can't make it no matter what date we set.

Keep the discussion going...

Yeah I didnt mean for it to sound like...you had to make it so I could attend...As much as I want it earlier...I now think thats why it ends up getting pushed so late.... ;D

I say hold it whenever is best for the majority...if I can participate, I will....if I cant, theres always another one.

I think a date should be thrown out there and everyone vote before, on or after that date and then narrow it down.
