dad and i have permission to hunt a couple hundred acres for coyote after deer season ended. when we scouted the area we found where the owner dumps his cattle carcass's. he had 5 or 6 in the dump. upon a closer inspection (as close as my nose could stand) there wasn't much action/work on the carcass. the oldest one looked like it melted into the ground, and the freshest ones wern't touched at all. there were some bones moved toward the field (couple yards) but not like anything was actively working the carcas. do you think it was not bad enough of the winter to start on them, sign of no predators in the area, most of the predators are vegeterian and i need to sound like alfafa in the field ( i think primos has an alfafa in distress call) or what?? when we talked to the owner he said they seen 2 coyotes while deer hunting this year. we were also scouting for more sign (scat , tracks along trails and logging roads) but fouind nothing. we seen alot of deer sign and couple places for making some good calling locations. just not sure why nothing been on the cows. :?:
