Box Fed Shotgun

Ok, so does anyone know the legality of a box fed shotgun as far as.. I own one and am wondering if I would plug the 5 round magazine to hold 3 shells is that legal, or would you technically have to plug the magazine to only hold 2 shells since combined with the one in the chamber it would be a max of 3? I see the new model box fed shotguns come with a 3 round mag, but they may have some kind of feature to not allow you to add another round? And also are there any regulations on plugging the magazine yourself, from what I gathered it seems as long as you have to disassemble the magazine to get the plug out your ok? Any info is appreciated thank you
