Locator call for Coyotes and why? 

I have used many over the years such as;
Group Yip Howls
Coyote Pair Howls
Lone Howl
Police Siren
Air Raid Siren
Rally Howls
Pre Hunt Howls

To broad of a question.  I think that depends on the time of the year.  For example,  if it's breeding season,  I like a female submissive.   After they've paired up I like a simple lone male howl.    Now that the pups are venturing out more, I like a female lone howl......

I left it broad so you could elaborate.  I did not want to influence your answer. 

That's very interesting.  You seem to gravitate toward all single coyote howls albeit different types of howls at different times of the year.

I have more success with multiple non aggressive howls or group howls this time of year.  In the fall, starting around mid to late November I like the single coyote howls either male or female and January through March Lone Female.

  What could some "Old Coot" tell you  "LookN2KnowItAll" But Here's the Super Secret:  Make a couple of Pup howls, try to sound as pitiful as you normally do  ......sequence 1 howl 1 whimper low  volume, wait 6 mins. 13 sec.,3 whimpers,1/2 howl wait 2 mins 23 secs. , it goes exponentially from there    I'm sure you can figure it out  .........something will come even if it's just a curious possum...... ...Go get'im Sonny..........POP's....

Good avice!! but do not forget about the woodpecker sound. At the same time you are using your sequence. Play that woodpecker sound at the 11 second mark and never stop until the stand is over. If you have two calls add raccoon fight at the same time. Play both at 71.3 volume. Have both speakers pointing to the exact spot you plan on setting. The closer the calls to you the better. That will direct them straight to you for a good close shot. This is also deadly on fisher, not just the dominant male coyote. This method really adds to the Curiosity part of the stand.

Locate while scouting I've used federal siren.
Pretty much agree with you Lookin4Fur..as far as sounds and seasons.
I like pup howl and coyote yip duet.
Give them what you get?

All kidding aside. Best call is scouting. If there is plenty of fresh coyote sign set up and call.
I have used locating sounds and never gotten an answere were I know there were coyotes in the area. Your best chance at calling them in is the first time they answere you. FInd fresh sign and set up and call them in. Where Timmy is hunting there can be a lot of empty areas of huntable coyotes.

It  just so happens that Sonny and myself are tag teaming coyotes this weekend,  We are headed out shortly to test all that sound advice!!!!

You set the two calls like I said and Sonny will remember that set up forever. Since your taking Sonny with you, set him at the hot spot between the speakers so he gets the shot. :-)
PS Sonny is hoping you will find a fisher for him to trap.
He is pretty cheap, when it comes to buying breakfast.

This time of year  I would  say non threating single howls in a series would be my first choice.The young of the year could be intimidated by group howls.BUT they are territorial and the sound of another dog on their turf no matter what  can set them off.
