Remington 870 express super mag
« on: February 16, 2016, 02:11:04 PM »
I've been eyeing up a Remington 870 express super mag. The price is right, it shoots 3 1/2" shells and it would be a good multi purpose gun (turkey, waterfowl,  predators). Was wondering if anyone has any experience with this gun. Any opinions would be appreciated.

My favorite gun. SPS Super Mag Turkey-Predator model.
I have a pistol grip on my 870, with red dot scope, 0 power. 20" barrel is compact for working in woods & brush.
The pistol grip takes a bit of the kick out of a 3 1/2" mag.
Fox, Coyote & Spring Gobbler gun.

Work the action, click-click...the most recognized sound in America

foxhound, this is the gun I use...

I used a Mossberg 835 for years on Predators & Turkey.
Mossberg was heavy, longer barrel and noisy, just made noise if I would shake it or move it one way or another.
When Remington first came out with the SPS Super Mag Turkey-Predator model, I bought one to replace the 835. I never looked back or seconded guessed myself.
Really enjoy the performance, good fit, pistol grip and shorter barrel.

Hern, that sps super mag is a fine looking shotgun! I'll have to look around and see if anyone has one in stock so I can put my hands on one. If it feels as comfortable as it looks, that may be my new gun.

foxhound, want to say up front, I never hunted waterfowl. Never. Not sure if 870 SPS Super Mag Turkey-Predator would fit your needs on Waterfowl. I don't know if waterfowl hunters use a red dot.
From my use and experiences with this gun, It's been a dependable gun & can reach out on a Turkey or Fox if need be.
When I first shouldered this gun in local gun shop, I had the feeling Remington designed this model for me...lol.

I bought the same 850 sps as Hern because of his comments.  You can't go wrong with this gun.
"Predators are either active & feeding, semi-active & callable, or utterly inactive & then practically speaking, no call is needed; we're just taking our guns for a walk. We can & should get used to it, & follow their leed cuz they just ain't eager nor apt to follow our’s any time soon!
