Time is a changing
« on: October 12, 2014, 01:14:49 PM »
When I was learning to hunt and shoot it was just a different world.
I guess I am just getting to old.
But the last couple of times at the range just seamed terrible to me as far as hunting is concerned.
Groups of guys show up show up with AR type rifles in every caliber you can think of. Not one of them is realy interested in hunting. Just interested in letting lead fly at man type targets and bragging of there so called good shots. One target was of the president of the USA.
Now I know you can laugh at that but what I an saying is things changed. Shooting at men targets was on police ranges not at a hunting clubs.
When I was learning to hunt and shoot the last thing we would have shot at is man targets. That type of target would not have not even entered any of my friends minds. Today it seams required.
There are only a few shooters with bolt action rifles at the club shooting on any weeken. They always seam to be working up loads for hunting and are looking for as small a group as possible.
Yep, I just must be old.  I like the small groups, one bullet at a time in a one inch target dots. Maybe i have it all wrong and i should just go and get some Zombi targets.

Its a new breed out there.  The "one shot, one kill" mentality is almost unheard of with the new generation of shooters.  Now is "how many rounds can I put down range and how fast can I do it.  I get asked all the time about what gun to buy for personal and home protection.  I'm Amazed at how many people want to shoot big calibres.  I alawys say it's not the size of the round, but rather where it's placed on the target.  Even a small .22cal can bring down a large animal if it's put in the right place.

your both absolutely right I'm 27 yrs old.  maybe i'm just weird but i have no interest in owning any kind of AR.  just because, i was raised just as you had said mister jake, "one shot. one kill." .30-.06 for deer and i have my 12g turkey gun for home protection.  i prefer archery hunting myself.  just because the other people in the woods ruin gun hunting for me.  they have the mentality if its brown its down and shoot a box of shells at it, wound it, and never find it.  your right the mentality of the world is spray and pray.

??? ??? Even when I was in the service we didn't have body targets.....just circles with bulls eyes....some of those bulls eyes were 5 feet across as we were shooting 5" rounds at it about 15 miles away.....but even small arms were just circles...

And when you were growing up, your video game was PONG.

You can't play Grand Theft Auto all day long and then want to shoot a stationary 1 inch orange dot....(unless someone tells you that it is a Zombie).......
