Duke Dogproof traps
«

I had purchased some duke dogproof traps for coon early in the season and for my standards have had pretty good success. I baited them with sardines or tuna. I was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions of baits to use for the next year's trapping season? The only bad thing that I can say about them is that the spring may be too strong and it usually breaks the raccoons foot. I have already caught a huge raccoon paw but no coon. that was verry upsetting lol. any extra tips with these traps would be greatly appreciated.

I just use the skin, bones, and fins for coon bait.
The rest, I eat!!!

put a marshmellow under the trigger, then smear peanuttbutter on the rim of the trap.
sounds like a dog or coyote got your coon, these traps don't break the skin, let alone the leg.

all duke traps have very strong springs. but if you are having problems with broken legs i would say its from them rolling and twisting off. add a swivel or two to the chain. marshmallow fluff and strawberry jello mix makes a good bait. if you trapping private land paint your traps white. this will add to eye appeal.
