Preparing Restaints

(1/1)

PA-Joe:
How do you prepare cable restaints? Someone said soak them in baking soda?

bigben:
I imagine that you would want to boil them so to get rid of smell.  I also believe that you can speed dip them in snare white.  the only reason you would boil them in baking soda is because it is not acidic.  if you use lye the aluminum crimps will corrode off.

dreamcatcher:
At the cable restraint course they suggest boiling in the baking soda

Dale:
I heard someone talking about the baking soda deal and they were saying that the soda will cause the wire to pit and the slides will not work as smoothly... I dunno, but that's what I heard from a supposedly experienced snare man... if I'm remembering correctly he said he boils them in plain water to remove oils and preservative and lays them out to age naturally...

I have no experience with these things just repeating what I heard from someone who sounded like he knew what he was talking about...

Leglifter:
I left mine in a drum of water
and blackened walnuts for about a month.
They came out tinted, oil free and still freely sliding
