First Red Fox!!!
« on: October 20, 2012, 11:45:08 PM »
Hey guys, This season so for is amazing but tonight I got my first red fox ever! I went to one of my grey fox stands it's a thick hillside of multiforla rose bushes so thick I don't want to walk through it. When I walked in I saw 8 deer in cornfield and then they ran up into the thorn bushes. I started to call and about 2 minutes in I saw 2 sets of eyes really faintly in the thorns about 120 yards away. I had my 17 mach IV on a tripod and my shotgun on the ground next to me. I called for about 20 minutes and throwing every call I had I think I went through about 7 different sounds with nothing working. So I turn to walk away and saw either a coon or opposum in a tree about 50 yards away so I move my tripod and rifle to get a shot at it. I looked back at the thorns and here is a fox running as fast as he can down the hill towards me. He was about 8- yards and closing so I grabbed my rifle and lipped squeaked to stop him but he only ran faster and closing. So I put the rifle down with the light on it still on in the grass and grabbed the shotgun(the one I got as a graduation present this spring). I lipped squeaked again and he came into 30 yards and stop I put the red dot on his head and shot and the eyes vanished. I started to walk down the fence line and realized I couldn't cross so I turned around and crossed and walked up to where he was and I couldn't believe than it was a red because he ran about 120 yards in 15 seconds and I have never seen a red fox there.

Congratulations!  Hope you get a bunch more.
"Predators are either active & feeding, semi-active & callable, or utterly inactive & then practically speaking, no call is needed; we're just taking our guns for a walk. We can & should get used to it, & follow their leed cuz they just ain't eager nor apt to follow our’s any time soon!
