Mr. Squirrel....is a high pitched whistle call... was wondering if anyone ever did well using Mr. Squirrel when they hunt squirrel?
The scenario is this ...Mr. Squirrel high pitched whistle is suppose to mimic a young squirrel in distress... Now what it's suppose to do is to get every squirrel in a wood lot going nuts... because a hawk or owl captured a young squirrel...This call is suppose to make every squirrel even if it's 2:00 PM in the after noon to reveal themselves in the tree tops.. Of course as soon as you see them move you take your shot..
Now this is the important thing. When you make these high pitch squirrel in distress sounds.. Your suppose to take a branch and slap that on the ground or use a couple of plastic bags. Here your mimicking the sound of a hawk wing beats in relationship to the high pitched squirrel distress sounds.. Kind of like a hawk or owl that hit the ground to grab the squirrel and the wing beats are hitting the ground..This makes all the squirrels in the area think a hawk or owl did grab a young squirrel.
The good thing about this type of squirrel hunting is that you can hunt squirrel anytime.. Even in the afternoon when squirrels are not moving as well...
I often wondered why the PGC never allowed squirrel hunting in the armer months like many of the other states. Might be neat to use this strategy then when leaves were on the trees just to get them moving...
