One of these days I am going to get out there and hunt black bear...What caliber do you like to use or what calbier do you think would be good for Black Bear?

Chuck Adams always said the black bear was the easiest of any game animal to kill with a well placed arrow. I shot one twice with a 270 wsm 150 grain bullet and man they are one tough animal. think if i ever hunted them again it would be the 45-70.

300 win mag, 300 wsm, 300 wby mag. 375 h&h for big bears. I have taken 3 black bears and one brown bear with these calibers. All one shot kills.

Ya you would want a big slug so the fat does not plug the bullet hole...Should you need to follow a blood trail. Ya I have a 4570 Encore Barrel..That what I would use or 3006 with at least 180 grain bullets.

3006 180 grain core lock. Three pa bear. I have killed them with 150 grain core lock.

7mm ultra mag with 160grain nosler partitions

He is correct for big bears. You may have to punch a bullet through a foot thick shoulder and the bullet would still need to do a lot of damage in the chest cavity.

I did purchase a black bear hunting license this year. The state wide bear season will open on a Saturday and then close and run into Monday and Tuesday...This will make it good for workers to get out in the woods on a Saturday.
Gone are the additional days to hunt them in certain WMU's during deer season.. I suppose they really whacked them last year so PGC felt they better stop doing this.. I did like this since you could hunt buck, doe, and bear all at the same time..
