Anyone trapping?
« on: January 08, 2016, 07:01:47 AM »
I have 3 farms set up with 7 traps for the last week. Am going to pull Saturday, and think I'm done for the season.
I did get a few Fox but picked up this Coyote Thursday morning
and love seeing them from long distance...

This is a pretty Coyote, The past several years on this farm, the Coyotes have been blackish with long, black guard hairs. This is the fourth Coyote I caught on this farm, this season, and all have been good color with no blackish tint.

Thanks. December & January Fox and Coyote really look good. Some Reds and Coyote will be rubbed soon.
Leather is thicker and white colored, under fur is dense and guard hairs long during late season.

If you done any skun'n, you will see the heavy, white leather on this Coyote and the Reds from this week...

Yes, usually. But not this week.
Why? I forgot. It will not de-value the pelt.
Yesterday afternoon, a couple of guys called and stopped in the shed. We had a couple of beers and shot the breeze. One guy brought 4 Coon to skun out, two other guys brought a Grey to skun, they just cabled.
It was nice to sit, relax and watch them work.
One guy looked over my fur and ask the same question, Don't you take ear cartilage out?
I glanced over to fur and to my surprise, I didn't remove ear cartilage from any this week. I have no clue why. I just plain forgot.  I sometimes forget to use a belly wedge too.
