204 Ruger

(1/1)

K9_Trapper:
Has anyone used the 204 Ruger for coyotes. If so how is it ?  Enough power? And how is the damage to the hide? And what grain bullet?

BP,

I guess my .30-06 is fur friendly too then.  It left no hole at all when I shot at one last year.

The 204 should do it.  But the higher velocity rounds are explosive.  so I'd suspect pelt damage on the far side.

Personally, I've been attracted to the 204, but can't find a purpose for it?  Seems that crows in fields would be perfect, but I don't need another rifle for that.  In PA ranges on all but wood chucks are under 200 yards, with most under 125 yards.  So I'd think If I was looking for a coyote gun, and wanted prime pelts, Id get a large bullet and a slower bullet...say a 22 Hornet, 222, 223.  if you like old ones a 25-20 or a 218 bee would work.

Just thoughts.  I've never killed anything with a 204.  But I've killed a lot of varmints with the 22, RFM, 22 Hornet, 218 Bee, 25-20, and the 222; little fur damage unless you hit the head, then they all blow fur, even the 22 mag RF.
