In the mid-'80's our family was Deer Hunting in Maine. Most of the week, I rode with a local trapper, checking his Fisher/Canine line. We were approching a crick ('Brook' in Maine) and I spotted fresh Deer tracks in the 10" of snowfall. Stop, I yelled! I wanted to see how fresh thesehere Deer tracks were.
I was examining the tracks when I heard a 'splash' from the crick. Trout shouldn't be raise'n. I walked over and observed an Otter chasing a Muskrat. In short order, the Otter has the 'Rat by the neck and a death roll began in the water. With his task finished, the Otter loped away, along the bottom edge of the bank, with his meal. (the above video remined me of this experience)

Otter/Muskrat saga was north of Jackman, on Scott Paper Company property.
No bridges over the cricks, because log trucks & logging equipment would destory 'em. Drove thru many a crick up there. If you met up with a logging truck, get off the road, they have the right of way on these properties.

Cool!

We raised mink when i was a kid.  I can remember having to handle them.  You wouldn't believe how strong they were, one nasty little critter.  If they were the size of a coyote, nothing would be safe  :o

Trapping John says-
If they were the size of a coyote, nothing would be safe

I handled a few wild Mink and I agree they are strong. Mainly in the neck/front shoulders.
When I was a boy I remember reading about the strength and will of a Weasel. Zane Grey or Maurice Decker or La Verne Israelson wrote this about a Weasel: If Weasels were the size of Cougars, Man would not be safe in the woods.
