Title: Northcentral hunt 09 rules and points.
Post by: bigben on October 28, 2009, 07:13:10 PM
November 13th, 14th, and 15th - Northcentral PPHA hunt

This hunt will be based out of Yesterdays hotel in Renovo,PA.

This hunt starts at 12:01 am on Friday the 13th. It will end on Sunday the 15th at 12:00 noon.

Those that want to draw a name from a hat to pick a hunting partner need to be at the front lobby of Yesterdays hotel at 7o'clock on friday night after supper. Those that do draw are not held to the partner they draw all weekend but if you do not want to participate in this part of the hunt then so be it. It is not required to participate, but they are encouraged to hunt with the person they draw. This is a good oportunity to get out and hunt with fellow members.

The luncheon will be held at Yesterdays restaurant in the 1st floor of the hotel. Lunch starts at noon.

Donation of Door prizes for this hunt are welcome.

Due to time constraints these will be the points for the 09 Northcentral hunt only.

The ppha member that shows to checkin with the most points will be the winner of a Foxpro spitfire game call that was donated by Mike Dillon of Foxpro game calls. Animals must be called.

All participants will recieve a participation patch. To recieve patch you must be at either the luncheon or the checkin.

    * Points for this hunt 3 points for raccoon
    * 5 points for red and grey fox
    * 10 points for bobcat (Must have a valid pa bobcat tag)
    * 15 points for coyote
    * There are no lunch points this year at all.
    * In the event of a tie a coin toss will be used to determine the winner.

Check in location. Travel south on rt 144 from Renovo,PA for appx 2 miles. There will be a pavilion on your left. There will be a gravel parking lot on the right. This will be the one and only checkin location. Checkin time is 12:00 noon on sunday. PPHA Membership cards will need to be presented at checkin to verify membership. You must be a member of the PPHA before the hunt starts to participate in this hunt.

This is a individual hunt. You may hunt as teams but shooter collects points.

As with all PPHA hunts all PGC game regulations are to be followed.

You can contact Ben Smyser about donations or any questions you may have about this hunt at bigben8011@embarqmail.com

Here is a howler that I made for the northcentral hunt this weekend.  It will be placed on the door prize table for the luncheon on saturday.  It is roughly 6.5" long.  it is a brownish cream colored cow horn.  I scalloped the end and placed a ELK inc mouth piece on the end.  This call makes great howls.  Anyone that has heard these ELK inc howlers preform can attest that they are one of the smoothest sounding coyote howlers out there.  The horn adds to the volume that the regular plastic ones lack.  This call can with practice make interrogation howls, yip howls, challenge howls, any range of howls from deep to high pitched by regulating the pressure on the latex reed.  It can also preform some very realistic KIYI's also.  I will also provide instruction to whoever wins this door prize.  I have only made two other ELK power howler voiced howlers and both of those are in my call bag.

pics (sorry that they are of poor quality.)

Wow!  Where are the "off topic police" when they're needed?  If a district #6 member made any of the posts in this thread, they would have been deleted.  I've been patiently waiting for 2 weeks to see what the prizes are, seems there aren't any/many.  Does anyone remember the days when this hunt generated 20-some pages of pre-hunt hype?  Remember the full tables of donated prizes?...some from out of state members?  Remember the crowded check-ins?  Nowadays it generates meaningless "good ole boy small talk".  This is the hunt where I signed on as a member.  How many will sign up this year?  Further we sink.  Gulp. Gasp.

The ppha member that shows to checkin with the most points will be the winner of a Foxpro spitfire game call that was donated by Mike Dillon of Foxpro game calls

Straight form the homepage of the PPHA website...been there for quite some time.

Post by: BP on November 12, 2009, 11:18:21 PM
So there is a Foxpro donated call and bigbens donated call?  Woo Hoo.  This reinforces my point and I thank you.  What happened to this hunt?  Why aren't there prizes anymore?

I take it you dont plan on participating then
Title: Re: Northcentral hunt 09 rules and points.
Post by: BP on November 12, 2009, 11:34:21 PM
I'm still up in the air.  Not much reason to travel 3 hours for the check in.  I'm not alone in feeling this way, other d6 members have conveyed the same complaints.
Title: Re: Northcentral hunt 09 rules and points.
Post by: Lifes2fun on November 12, 2009, 11:39:21 PM
I'll be traveling 3 hours...guess its all in what you want to do
Title: Re: Northcentral hunt 09 rules and points.
Post by: BP on November 13, 2009, 05:51:45 AM
That's correct.  I'd rather hunt than drive.
Title: Re: Northcentral hunt 09 rules and points.
Post by: Lifes2fun on November 13, 2009, 09:18:14 AM
I'll be doing that as well.

The idea of this hunt is not to hunt in NE,SE,SC,SW or NW but to make the journey and find spots in NC Pa to hunt. This may require a hotel room, or a stay at yours or a friends camp or home.
I'm sorry you dont like the way the hunt is set up, I like the opportunity to hunt different areas other than my usual here in SC Pa.
As it seems others do as well and are making the journey for the hunt and camaraderie.

There will be other hunts...if youd like you, as a member, may participate in one of those.

D6 is conducting a 6 week hunt started at the beginning of fur season.

Post by: muttbuster on November 13, 2009, 09:18:52 AM
BP, I wouldn't mind the drive if I was lucky enough to draw a Bobcat tag. But since I did not draw one, I have a hard time justifying how I have an equal chance of winning anything. I just don't understand how the point system is fair to the guys that didn't draw a tag. This is the craziest point system I have ever seen. It's kind of like taking a knife to a gun fight and calling it an even fight.
Title: Re: Northcentral hunt 09 rules and points.
Post by: Lifes2fun on November 13, 2009, 09:28:06 AM
I dont have a Bobcat tag and I dont mind one bit if someone beats me by turning in a bobcat if I only have a fox.
Seems others that dont have a cat tag dont have a problem with it either.

A Bobcat does not beat a coyote. In fact a coyote beats a bobcat.

You missed the whole point.
Title: Re: Northcentral hunt 09 rules and points.
Post by: Lifes2fun on November 13, 2009, 09:37:32 AM
No I didnt miss any point...you are unhappy and dont feel the point system is fair.

No matter what point system is attached someone will not like it.

Title: Re: Northcentral hunt 09 rules and points.
Post by: muttbuster on November 13, 2009, 09:50:51 AM
Look up the definition of the word "fair". It doesn't say anything about someone having an advantage. I think if everyone had the same chance to win based on a fair point system there wouldn't be anyone unhappy with the point system.
Title: Re: Northcentral hunt 09 rules and points.
Post by: Lifes2fun on November 13, 2009, 09:57:06 AM
Well the points system has been different in the past and people complained it wasnt fair then either....as the saying goes...you cant please everyone.

no ones controlling anyone.
Address your concerns with your district vp.
Or you may PM them to the president if you feel your district vp is not handling your concerns.
