Although I use a lot of different calibers... I like the .243 for coyotes at night, .223 ok for daylight.  I like the .17 Fireball for fox and coon.  Just my preferences...lots of choices for sure.

Just loaded up some .223 75 grain match hollow points at 2200 fps to see what happens on fox.

I bought a new 17 wsm but haven't had it out yet. It weighs 4.5 pounds. From what I've read it should handle a coyote out to about 125 yards with a good shot.

I wanted something that can reach out a little farther and have a bigger punch. But I didn't want a bug heavy long rifle. I ended up buying a used Savage Axis in 22-250 for $274. It weighs 6.5 pounds and feels great.

I used it Saturday to shoot my first coyote. It was perfect not only in its capability but also carrying it to and from the truck. Nice and light. I may even sell my B-Mag now.

Congrats on your first yote. The .22-.250 is a great caliber and will certainly do the trick on a yote.

Had to chuckle a bit.  You said:

but honestly I'm getting tired of how heavy it is.  Especially since I hardly see anything.

It is not like we get disgusted with not seeing anything...we find other things to complain about....sounds like me...ha ha.

True story, lol.  After lugging that log around I expect to see something.  I actually been carrying the 12.  Looking for a red dot that will work and not cost an arm.
