Title: red lens material
Post by: Harry Sigafoo on August 17, 2006, 03:52:47 PM
Can someone recomment a source for red lens material?

I looked at Staples and Target stores.  None of the material I found transmitts much light, just makes a red glow.

All thoughts appreciated.

Walmart, back in the sewing craft area.  Comes on rolls like wrapping paper.  2-3 bucks if I remember correctly.  Lifetime supply.

BP I spend an enjoyable 45 minutes talking to a yoiung girl (jumbo sized) in Walmart.  Se walked me thru all the departments looking for the 'stuff'.  met many nice helpful clerks that   "yea, I know what you want."  but no one knew where to find it.  I suggested it might be 'wraping paper', as in for flowers or candy.

Any hints what Wal-mart sells this stuff as???

thanks.

I bought it at the Franklin/Cranberry Walmart.  Send me your address and how much you need, and I'll give you some of my life-time supply.

Update!

I found it in Walmart again.  It seems it is seasonal(Christmas).  It is in the sewing/crafts area, on a roll like wrapping paper, and marketed for gift baskets.  Buck-fitty per roll.  Get it before Christmas!

Hey guys,

This post was most helpful.  I checked my local Wal-Mart and they did not have the above mentioned.  Is there a name associated with it?  I have 3-4 Wal-Marts around so instead of driving to each one I would like to call them.

Thanks!

Have you considered "Dykem" to spray the original clear lens with??? It comes in a spray can and does a great job and is completed in about 5 minutes... :?

I used the Dykem w/ the paint on brush.  Its the best way to coat a lense that I have come across.

go to any dollar store they should have it. For 1 dollar or less.  Red lens material. Cheap-Cheap! It is a thin type of film but it will work well over most lights.

The stuff I found is the same plastic that you wrap up gift or fruit baskets up with. It looks like a roll of wrapping paper but is red transparrent. anyone is my area who needs some I'll cut you some off mine. I never used it but got it just incase. It was only $.50 after the holidays.
