why i like shotguns better!

this past friday night called in this red to 100yards. shot with a .223 and as you can see, blew a hole in him the size of a grapfruit! I have been using factory loads cause i dont have loading dies for it yet,but last year was using a .222 loaded down as slow as i could with fmj bullets and they where not much better. Any suggestions on a good load for my .223

I'm not sure but I think that fox had a little diverticulitis in his lower bowl. Your surgical strike took care of it tho. Seriously, don't switch to a ballistic tip, they're worse. What grain lead and was it a hollow point?

HAHA yea ur right about that! wasn't no hollow point it was a 55 grain soft point. any suggestions?

well ya killed it.  that was the main goal right?  but to be more fur friendly either go to a light skinned varmint type bullet and go fast or go heavy and go slow.  with the .223 atleast.  drop down to a more fur friendly round.  I got your link fixed.

Target match bullets like Serria Match King bullets.

Depending on where you're hunting, a lighter round will work also. I've killed three fox's in the last month with a 17HMR. You have to place your shot but it works. The fur is perfect with that round.

Sub sonic ammo works and so does a rifle suppressor. Little pelt damage.

Yea muttbuster your right. i used one of those a few years ago and head shots there weren't no damage at all but i thought it was just a little to light so quit using it. i got trouble enough hittin the body let alone head shots! lol

if you still have the 222 roll up some with a 40-50gr V-Max... I've found them to be very effective when head shooting them... normally will not tear up the head if you center them up...

ysp1503 Last yr. I skinned a fox Buckwheat shot I think with his 223 and it had no fur damage at all. You may want to pm him and ask what he uses.

I skinned a coon of buckwheats a few years ago,
It didn't have much damage either

I use Winchester 223 Rem 45 GR. JHP Varmint High Velocity 3600 FPS.
it just puts a pin hole, and puts them down.
