Title: Fall Fishing
Post by: jaspr1 on September 19, 2013, 07:29:08 PM
Well we are all looking forward to fur season but if you get a chance you might try to wet a line. I have been out 3 times recently and have had very good success...1st trip wife and I must have caught and released 35-40 crappies on a small lake here in Central Pa......2nd trip we were on Susquehanna and we caught and released a few bass the best of which was a 19 incher, all looked very good..no blemishes or black spots...today I went out a little late, Susquehanna again and I only caught 1 fish but it was a 32 inch Channel cat over 13lbs...I was using minnows and crawlers..cat went for a 3-4 inch shiner minnow.. 8)

Nice smallmouth jaspr1. Here on the ohio river we had a great spring season for smallmouth but so far this fall it's been slow for them.

Hit the river this morning with a buddy and we ended up catching this channel and 10 other buddies of his in a 2 hr span. Most were in the 10lb weight class.

That's a nice channel catfish. Ben you sure know how to catch those big boys. I hear there are other guys that catch them, but you seam do every time you go fishing. I never knew there were that many big ones until you showed us.

;D Can you keep nothing a secret?  >:( >:(  My friend did catch an 18" smallie and he was ecstatic to say the least.  :) I told him if the river was just 6 inches higher and not gin clear we would be in the money but he seemed happy with what he was catching. He looked in my minnow bucket, said in Tx's we filet fish that size..lol...about a minute later my drag went zing and like an idiot I hauled back and yanked the bait right out of somethings mouth...shredded it real good.  ::) ::)........made cut bait out of remains and got a 25 inch cat just after... ;D...that's my story and I'm sticking to it... :P :P :P :P.................. 8)...BTW Clarks Creek here in Central Pa. was stocked Thurs.

'the bite' is just not on yet on the Susquehanna
By that, we are catching Smallmouths but they are spotty.
Tuesday, my son and I worked over PPL Dam (Shamokin Dam) then drifted above and under Selinsgrove RR bridge for 2 hours and caught 1 Bass using Jerk baits and Spinner baits under very windy conditions.
Then drifted a long deep stretch at the Isle of Que when we got into Smallmouths. This drift we were using Wacky Worms and the Bass were hitting like a machine gun. Probably 4 in the 11"-13" range most 14"18". We drifted that stretch two times. Then return to PPL dam and nothing, then drifted to boat ramp and picked up an 18" bass on the way.
5 hours of windy conditions, but we did catch Bass. No Walleye.
When the first real rain makes the river rise, then the Walleye will turn on. Some guys are picking up a Walleye or two, the but the bite isn't on yet. We need rain...this crazy weather

That cat was from last fall. Might get out this weekend for channels if the water comes up. A friend wanted me to come up to ferry boat this past sat but low water made me afraid of removing the lower unit off my 50 horse johnson. We need rain bad. Problem is i feel it will come up right when rut kicks in then it wil only be sun fishing trips

Its funny there were two guys floating buy fishing for bass and after they caught one they would hold it up to for us to see. When this big fella drew up tight on the rod and that circle found its mark he came to the top like an explosion. And he put on a show all the way to the top just rollin and splashin all the way in. That got their attention.
