PPHA Members,
Andrew Lewand, founder of Bark At The Moon Coyote Club in NY, and I have been talking for the last 2 yrs about holding a hunt between our two organizations. Well, at the last PPHA Expo we decided to quit talking about it and get it going for the upcoming fur season. Below are the details, dates and rules. The hunt is simple and for fun, lets keep it so. Other states are interested in what we are organizing so lets show them some strong participation and lots of pics!!! This years hunt will be between PA and NY residents who are members of their respected organizations only. Next year we hope to have more states involved.
Here is a new opportunity for us to get out in the woods, do some calling, represent the PPHA and have a great time with fellow members. I'm asking all PPHA members to please set aside this weekend and participate in this fun hunt. Lets show the boys in NY a pile of PA fur!!
PA-NY Predator Showdown
The purpose of this hunt is to promote the enjoyment of predator calling and to serve as a friendly rivalry for hunters from PA and NY.
This is a calling contest only. Predators taken by use of running with dogs are not valid
There are no prizes awarded in the contest… Only bragging rights for 1 year!
Hunters must sign up in advance on their respective website. A separate message board thread will be established for the roster(http://www.ppha.us/smf/index.php?topic=3693.0), rules and for picture posting

This hunt is to be held on the weekend of Feb 5th, 6th & 7th 2010
Roster thread to be finalized by Thursday the 4th. If your name is not listed on the roster by the deadline on the 4th. You cannot participate.
Points shall be awarded for each predator taken
10 points for each coyote
5 points for each fox (greys and red fox count the same)
Bobcats are excluded as each state has different management programs.
Each successful contestant must pose with their take. The specific, and mandatory, pose will be announced at 5:00 PM on Friday night.
All pictures must be posted on the contest thread by 6:00 PM on Sunday night.
there will be no tie breakers and the rematch will start the following year! ;D
This is a members only hunt.

We just finished our WNYS Predator Hunt and are now looking forward to the PA-NY Showdown. It should be lots of fun.

the pose for the hunt is~
you holding your harvest by ALL FOUR FEET while pointing at your vehicle license plate. this will show which state got what.

Well I called in 2 yotes first set and 1 yote and a fox next to my truck on the way out second set. I shot right over one yotes head from 50 yds away with my .22 mag. I just got a bit excited I suppose. Don't laugh, but I was using foxpro turkey distress. We haven't gotten any snow yet here in Montrose so they were moving. Funny thing is I missed a yote earlier in the season from the same set with the shotgun. Sighhhhhhhh

Over 2 ft of snow here,
Got my tutu out of storage, and plan on wearing it reguardless

was out last nite for about 3 hours till it started snowing with no luck

I haven't made it out at all, it's been snowing hear since 12;30 yesterday and just stoped. I have 27 inch's and I been diging out since 7;00 this morning and still not done. Were I live we are the last to get the road's plowed. I may make it out for a little while around the house here, but no traveling for me just not wether the risk.

Did NY get any snow? If not, we need a rematch. If I can get into the rematch I will be there. I know we can win this contest.

I didn't get any snow....yet.

Had to come in and take a brake, with this much snow it's even hard work plowing with the 4wheeler, but just about done ::) till the plow truck or grader come's though. I have the dog cennal to finish and that's it. Snow's so deep my Lab's even have trouble getting threw it.

so he could take a dump, The snow kind of put a stop to him LEAVING the dump

I am sure there are going to be hunts between NY/PA into the future... Would kind of be unfair for anyone from NY or Pa to harvest let say a mess of predators by one person and then try to have someone call it because of the weather....figure it's a contest someone got to win and someones got to lose...Grant you it does not look too good for Pa this year because of the white out of many counties in the state.. However who knows maybe one or two Pa people could hit the predators well.. Hey if we lose we lose...We have to give thanks to the PPHA members who at least could get out there....I know for me to go and try to find a parking place now would be not to smart...22.5 inches of snow in my area...

I never made it out myself. I spent the majority of the weekend either next to the woodstove, shoveling, plowing, snow blowing and sledding. Heard rumors of the neighbors that there is another storm brewing for Wednesday....we shall see. If I coulda gone out to hunt I woulda have been hard-pressed to get my truck off the road to even park.
Hope that some of the northern tier members got out to hunt...seems most of us in the southern half of the state spent the weekend digging out.
Oh well, seems everytime we have a hunt with alot of participation we get some kind of nasty weather...no matter what year or what PPHA event... >:(

No pics posted from any PPHA members....lookin as though our neighbors to the north took this one. Mother Nature didn't wanna play nice this weekend for much of PA. :(
