A tip from everyone ?
« on: February 26, 2013, 06:43:38 PM »
I see a lot of people that are new to the sport on this site, was thinking maybe all of us so o do succeed could post a helpful tip to help others from making those little mistakes?!

Mine will be to leave the light on as much possible when night hunting to prevent missing out on a charging predator, and so they don't see the light blinking on/ off

What a great idea!!  My tip is very basic but many people miss because of this......   Follow thru with your shot.  To often I would want to see if the fox went down and had a tendency of looking over my scope before the shot went off.....end result - MISSED !!  The Tri X Tri-pod  stand definitely helps too !!

To add onto the ops comment.  Leave the light on from when you leave the truck till you get back. Do not ever turn it off

Also scouting both pre season and in season. Dont waste time at spots that look good. Know they are there and you'll have a lot more success.

Close your vehicle doors quietly...don't cause the normal......thunk!!!  :P also avoid the crunch on frosted snow when possible.....unusual noise when hunting hurts your set-up... ???

Don't forget to turn off your cell phone and make sure your hunting partner does the same. Happens to me every season!

Double check to make sure you have all of your gear. I stinks when you get back to your truck and realize you left your remote in the field.

When hunting at night always remember a good white light. It's makes things easier when your leaving, looking for animals, blood, things you might accidentally leave behind ect.

If you shoot at a predator, immediately after the shot keep posted and finish the stand. It's not uncommon to have multiple critters come in during a stand and it's the only way your going to double up.

Always be aware of wind direction before and during your stand day or night.

I know I'm guilty of forgetting to chamber a round on a stand or two...

good advice is to always check out a stand in daylight hours...not only for scouting purposes but also you cant always see whats beyond that opening at night.....houses, cars, barns, people, cattle and so on

At night with a poor light, that Fox at 100 yards looks like he's 175 away!
