.222?
« on: December 25, 2009, 10:06:25 PM »
would a .222 be a good round for both fox and coyote?  What are the pro's and con's?

Have only used a 222 on chucks and my experience is that it not only stops em, but also field dresses em.  Might be too much on a fox.

The 222 fell along the wayside because of the 223.  The 222 is almost equal to the 223.  223 ammo being a military round is kind of what did the 222 in...Cheap ammo, plenty of ammo,.  The 222 would be an excellent coyote gun...However you would have to know what your doing with the 222 to make it workable with fox......I have one,  I can't wait to reload some 50 grain Win Silvertips and try it on chucks....  If by observation the chucks are not to shot up I might try it for daytime fox calling....I know that it's the 50 grain bullet that everyone says shoots well in the 222 Rem.   If the Silvertip prove to much I will use it for hunting coyotes in the daytime or during Twilight conditions over snow at night time for coyotes.
