I am pretty sure at this point I will be heading out.  depends on funds at that point of the season.  but right now I am game.  really would like to meet alot of the names on the boards I have been reading for over 5 years that live in different corners of the states.

If at all possible I will be there too. Maybe a bunch of us can meet on this side of the state and make a road trip out of it. Sounds like a good time.

Leglifter

JD and I will be there running the calling event at the world expo. You all need to know it is a Friday, Saturday and Sunday calling event. The expo is only a three day event also.

So here are some thoughts. This could be another PPHA event, we could set up a booth there and it would be a place to for everyone to hang out at. I already asked Brent if he would help us out and he said he would give us a $400 booth at 1/2 price. So for $200 bucks PPHA could have a place to hang out at. Now we would have to talk to Tom and see if he will cut a check for the booth or anything else we can squeeze out of the club for this big event. Last year there we other clubs that can and set up booths and it gave them a place to just hang out at and talk to all the people that walk by. Every one there was as friendly as at our own event. So it is fun.
People could rent a van or vans and everyone could ride out and back that is staying for the three days. Could get hotels together and save money there also. There are a ton of things that could be done to make this cheaper and fun. But first we need to get the ball rolling if there is enough interest. I will help do what ever I can to help make this a good event.

You might want everyone to list were they are from for car pooling or van rental if that becomes an issue.
I am from lancaster county south east pa.

Columbus is 200 miles from me in lawrence co.
Depending on how many vehicles there will be, people can park at my house and the drivers could hit the turnpike
4 miles from me.
I can check on van rentals.
Ernie, you can coordinate this if you want to( no skin off my nose)
I could be a weigh point close to the Ohio line

I might be heading out the day before the event so I can get some sleep. I was hoping to get some interest in PPHA having a booth there and getting PPHA involvement a little more. As I said in the previous post maybe you could get them to list were they are from to help schedule.

Def looking into going to this show, a weekend in Ohio could be interesting. I think the booth idea would be a great idea, even if we just grab a few new members that are close to the PA line and would be interested in coming out for an event. I figure we've already got some members from NY and VA, why not OH?
Title: Re: 2010 world predator calling competition
Post by: Buckwheat on July 20, 2009, 05:26:53 PM
I think it just would be lot nicer if PPHA members had a booth there even it is just for people to set down and talk or set there stuff when they are walking around. Yes, you can sell memberships and that would be nice but not necessary. This could be just a representation to show that PPHA is a leader in this sport and support this type of event. Remember the guys that have booths there are the guys that have lead the way in this sport and will continue to do so. PPHA is one of the best leaders in this sport so we might as well have fun and have a booth there.

I agree with BW, the PPHA should have some type of representation there. Quality exposure for the PPHA is very valuable. Like BW said, the leaders of the industry will all be there. I can't think of a better group of professionals to associate with. Knowing the right people can open a lot of doors.

but, if we are to hold a booth i suggest (and will even design & build) a great display booth for the PPHA. somthing besides our rinky-dink banner and two folding chairs. maybe a tri-fold cloth covered background with pictures & info on what the PPHA has accomplished in the last 8yrs, tv monitor with slide show & video's and than some....

if we're gonna do it....let's do it up right! give ourselves a more proffesional appearance.

I would love to see some new merch for sale (and wear). I can't find anyone to help me bring these designs to life. I can't draw and my friend who can is so busy with doing tattoo's and the family thing that he's taken to working on Sundays.

Woody, if you want to put something like that together, i'm with ya on it. It would look a great deal better with a professional and organized look. I would be very excited to talk to the leaders in the industry and look for some new hunting contacts. Friend of mine had made a contact from a hunting show, he lives in ILL deer country and says he'll trade a weekend bow hunt at his place for a weekend stay at my buddies for some fine susquehanna smallmouth fishin. I kinda wish I had met the guy, jeeze!

That is a great idea!! Money would be the first question? I believe we would have to wait and see who is running for office for the 2010 year to get that answere on money.  But that sounds like a good start.

Um now if PAPHA could charter a bus and get a block of hotel rooms near by now that would be neat... It's No Hurry To Take The Bus And Leave The Driving To Us".  Um that use to be the old greyhound commercial...  It could depart from somewhere in the Eastern part of the state (Harrisburg) stop let say at Breezewood  then stop in Western Pa like Monroeville  before it went on to Ohio.. Kind of maintain the Pa Turnpike run accross the state...Or maybe interstate 80 with different stops in E,C, W part of Pa??????
Just doing a little brain storming.....

http://www.worldpredatorandhuntingexpo.com/downloads/2010/2010ExpoContract.pdf (http://www.worldpredatorandhuntingexpo.com/downloads/2010/2010ExpoContract.pdf)

Here is the contract for a booth that the worlds...it seems it $400 for a 10x10

$400 isnt squat when youre talking the amount of people that PREDATOR hunt will be walking through there, just for the exposure alone. If I am able to go I would gladly help man the booth for some time.

Woody great idea on updating the booth, not just for the worlds but in general...I also agree we need some new styles of merchandise to sell....hats, shirts, maybe some hoodies?  Ian....I'd like to see some "younger" styles something with some flair. I liked your idea for a "girlie" shirt/hoodie also.

Everyone in this thread has come up with some excellent ideas.  How ever like what someone said we as an org. should probably wait until after officer elections take place to set anything "into stone", seeing how the event actually takes place during the whomever takes office's term.
Title: Re: 2010 world predator calling competition
Post by: 220_Woody on July 29, 2009, 08:20:37 PM
don't know if chartering a bus is possible unless we get 50 or more people dedicated & paid in advance....but...maybe we can rent one(or more) of them 15 passenger vans and set up designated stops & times along I80 & the turnpike for pick-ups like you said.

being i'm the furthest east in the southern tier i'd be willing to pick up a van and start out on the turnpike westbound and stop every 3-4 exits to pick up folks. gonna need a large vehicle anyways to tote the new larger display for the booth.

as for the block of rooms.... MOST DEFINATELY!

we got plenty of time...lets plan it right! ;)

PPHA has to have a booth there. We are the leader in the east. We should have some items there for sales and auction. Some beautiful belt buckes with our logo on it will make a STRONG STATEMENT. I can get us good prices.

Hey Guys...  If you are still planning on heading out...

I would be interested in going out...

I would volunteer to drive, I have a GMC 2500HD Crew Cab.

I would just ask that we split fuel cost between riders..

I would be heading out through Washington, PA...

Keep me posted, please PM me if I dont check back in right away...

I would be interested in helping out at the booth...

Thanks!

Well there does not seam to be too much talk about who is going to this expo event, and you are correct it kind of died down talking about this event on the board. Other than a few people talking mostly on and off the board about a truck or van and going out it has been real quiet.

So chime in if you are going, how you are getting there and how long are you staying.
I am going, at least 3 days, looks like I might drive my car unless some of the other prospects come through. Some of the hotels are booked full I heard but I did not confirm.

Woody is the man planning this event.  I know the PPHA will have a table thier and there are a few members attending.  Other than that, I don't know a lot of details.  Maybe Woody will chime in soon.

Ernie, do you know how many callers thier are yet?

I have not been keeping track how many have signed up. The entrance fee and registration goes to Brent. But a few weeks back when I said the event was going to cut off at 25 entries. I think Brent said there were 9 paid and 3 said they were sending in entrance papers. Since then I joined and know of one other for sure that joined because he sent me a letter saying hi. I have received some phone calls since then and would think Brent has also. I have scheduled time for 25 callers. If you are thinking of getting in I would just get in and do your best. It really does not matter how many are in. You are a good caller; just do your best and you might win.

Thanks for the info.  You are right, on a personnal level, it doesn't matter how many callers their are.  As a business person I was curious to hear if participation was up or just towing the line.  Honestly, I am interested in participating but $200 plus hotel, gas and food is a lot of money and I'm not sure I can swing any of it.  Good luck with the event........Tim

I think the booth looked great!!
Furs, mounts, photo book, signs stating what the membership gets you, and a sign telling what the PPHA did for the PA predator hunter
in recent years,
All this on a 7x7 telescopic background display.
Camo table cloth on the table and the chairs were mine and L4F's

A big thanks should go out to Tim for supplying 95% of these things

Furbug, That was the best display the PPHA ever had.  We had everything you talked about except the tv and video.  They wanted another $75 bucks for electric.  Were not working off a huge budget here.  I think its a great idea for you to build a display.  If you have the time and money and can make it easy to put up and tear down.  Go for it.  I will use it for sure.
