20 Practical

Yep....time to start getting ready to whack some Prairie Dogs !!

I’d built a 20 Practical on a stagger feed action but, ran into feeding issues with the 26gr Barnes HPs, they’d just catch the face of the barrel and not consistently feed. I have newer center feed in 223 so, I loaded up a mag and cycled them through. Starting with a center feed solved the problem so, I stripped down the old rifle and sold it as parts.

It's a start.......some spiffy new left-handed center feed rifle and some parts.

Donor action torn down to polish

All shiny and ready for a new build.

Shilen Stainless Select Match 12 twist...planning to stick with 32g and under.

Yep – forgot to order the base (Doh) so I threw on parts I had around for some testing.
Two shots to get it on paper, then this five using the load my old 20 Practical liked, just tweaked the seating depth to set .005" off the lands of this barrel.

Here it is as it sits now.

Cranked it up a bit to see what it could do but, that’s too fast for volume shooting on a hot day. My final load for WY this year is at 4,165 fps.

Prairie Dogs beware....LOL.
