Shotgun for groundhog
(1/1)
gdragon:
Board sure is slow lately.
Went looking for groundhogs today. Saw a big fat one about 40 feet away but the cow barn was directly behind it so I couldn't take the shot with the rifle I had with me. Anyone ever use their 12 ga?
What shot/choke do you use?
I think I'll take my K-Hornet or my Nova with me next time I go there.
220_Woody:
i use old turkey loads in my 12ga. i've had problems in the past trying to anchor a ground grizz with just a small game load for dove or rabbit. get somthin with some 'umph'.

gdragon:
That was what I planned on. Is it worth screwing in the turkey tube or will modified be okay? We're limited to #4 birdshot right?
220_Woody:
wouldnt hurt to try some different chokes. experiment alittle. yeah...#4 shot is the limit. actually i didnt realize there was a shot size restriction....i always thought if it went 'bang' it was legal for chucks. learn somthin new everday.
Harry Sigafoo:
I've killed them with 12 ga. But you will roll 2 for everyone you kill and anchor. They have just too much body fat. I've used 3 inch 4 but still not a great anchor tool.
A 22 mag works wonders on barn hogs.
