I know what you mean. It's a touchy one.
Half of the people are for it, and half are against. The half that are against seem to be the "professionals" and the ones for semis should just spend more time at the range. I can shoot. My guns can shoot. But we should have the right to choose what we use. It's hard to avoid this one.

Like I wrote earlier, I was reading an old AR-15 magazine last night, and the author was shooting the Les Baer Super Varminter in .223 and shot a prarie dog at 650 yards! He said it took a few shots. But that's a far shot for a varmint gun on a critter not bigger than a milk carton.
I could justify buying myself the Les Baer Super Match in .204 if I could hunt with it. Until that  happens, I guess I'll blow the yotes up with 165 gr. Hornady SSTs from the .308 or 100gr. hollowpoints from my 7mm-08. Maybe I'll try to find a used 700 SPS varmint in .204 for now.

Another point is the economics of hunters buying more guns......Stores make sales, gun mfg make sales, semiautomatic  equipment is sold... America and Pennsylvania works and they bring home a paycheck... Pay taxes and do not have to be on welfare.

However the divorce rate could go up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

VERY GOOD POINT, UNCLEBUCK!
I can personally say that I'd buy one if I was guaranteed I could use one from now on.
In all probability though, I'll be buying a new coyote gun by next fall anyways. If I can't get an AR, it'll be a 700 SPS varmint or something along those lines.

the SPS Varmint is heavy,  the sps is more of a carry gun and the model 7 is even shorter and lighter, i wanted the varmint until i looked at one then i ordered the sps.  i saw you mention the .204, why the .204 over the .17 just curious.

Everything I"ve heard about the .204, I love.
I do like what I hear about the .17 also.
I guess it really wouldn't matter too much. I just like the slightly heavier bullet in a .204.
And if I could get an AR, they don't chamber them in .17. They do chamber in .204.

I have a 700 Police in .308. That is a heavy gun! I've carried it deer hunting a few times. I'll never take it up to my camp for first day again though. I took it two years ago and had to hike with it 2 1/2 miles to my spot. It was terrible. But for hikin a bit, settin up, callin, hikin back to the truck, driving to another spot and repeat, a heavy gun isn't a problem.

For predator hunting no it'd ruin the fun...
any other hunting DEFENITLY NO!!!
that'd give the road hunters a new toy.

I don't think it would ruin the fun at all.
I actually think it would introduce more fun, and more people to the sport. There are a lot of people that like to shoot semis, but don't hunt because they can't use it. If it were to change, it would be easier to make it for all hunting, not certain species in certain seasons.
An all across the board legalization would be easiest for law makers.

Just recieved this email from Robb B. Miller from PA House of Rep. "should you gather enough signatures, I think that would certainly bolster your case.  Many other states allow te use of semi-automatic rifles for hunting and I know one of the groups that supports the cause is Ted Nugent’s United Sportsmen of America … you might be able to join forces with them to move the issue along.

As I reported last fall, Representative Staback introduced H.B. 779 last year and it would certainly be worthwhile for you to write to him about your support, if nothing else just to thank him.   Hopefully, that bill will be considered in Game and Fisheries soon.  I will take a moment to forward your letter of support to Representative Staback’s office.  All my best, -R-
