Shot that cal. for years in NRA high power silhouette's, a necked down 308 case to 7mm (.284). A great long range cal. when used with heaver bullets out to 500 meters.
Well suited for North America game animals given the bullet weights it can handle.

Built on 700 LA with a Sako extractor, 1:9 twist, bedded and free floated.  He said it shot clover leaf at 100 yards with 168 grain bullets.  I don't know if I should believe that or not, could not find any factory loads at 168 grains. For you guys that reload what is your pet load?

Mike what make and model did you win?

Sierra MK 168's  over 41gr. Varget fed 210 match primer pet load in 3 different 7-08's.
Think I used H414 with Berger 180's can't remember the charge amount or rifle twist 1-7 or 1-8 not a fast load but packed a punch at 500 meters.

Have an older Mod.7 all weather.  won't shoot FL Federals (140 Pts or Bts).  Loves 120 Sierra handloads.  2 shots=2 Bucks DRT.  New Ruger American loves Nosler FL 120 BT.  Great PA and Maine & Vermont Deer & Bear cartridge.  Dick

The one I wanted has been sold.  However you silver tongued guys convinced me I should have one, as did my grandson.   Just have to make up my mind between the Rem Mdl7CDL with a 20" barrel or a Rem Mdl700CDL with a 24" barrel.  Leaning towards the Mdl 7 as I have one in 22-250 and it fits my grandson pretty good.

Or I might (probably will) get this:

Vanguard 2 Sporter Bolt Action Rifle special features:

Cold hammer-forged 24" barrel with recessed target crown to enhance accuracy and protect rifling
"A"-grade Turkish walnut stock with satin urethane finish
Match-quality, 2-stage trigger is creep-free and adjustable down to 2.5 lbs.
Fully-enclosed bolt sleeve and one-piece machined bolt
3 rings of steel: the cartridge case head is surrounded by the recessed bolt face, which is surrounded by the barrel, which in turn is surrounded by the steel receiver...creating an extra measure of strength
Matte bead-blasted blued finish
