Funny Story on how you know you are raising a predator hunter.
« on: September 19, 2013, 09:24:07 AM »
My son is 14 now going on 25 but he has been hunting since he was 7 and predator hunting for a few years now.  This past weekend we were hunting in the youth duck hunt.  He and his buddy were doing the shooting and I was being the guide as usual doing all the calling.  He killed his woodies early but his buddy didn't connect on any.  so with just woodies flying around I told him to try some calling.  I gave him my duck and goose call and he put them around his neck.  In about 5 minutes we had ducks flying about 200 yards out and coming toward us.  i told him to start calling, well he starts calling and it is possibly the worse duck call i have ever heard, then i started to laugh because i realized he was doing a dying rabbit into the call because it is the only thing he has ever called.  I will say that he did a good impression of a dying mallard duck on a lohman call though.  I told him how to call and he picked it up pretty good by the end of the day..

Nice.  I love to hear stories like that.
"Predators are either active & feeding, semi-active & callable, or utterly inactive & then practically speaking, no call is needed; we're just taking our guns for a walk. We can & should get used to it, & follow their leed cuz they just ain't eager nor apt to follow our’s any time soon!
