Good night hunting
« on: October 23, 2012, 06:47:28 AM »
Brian Downs wanted to red fox hunt. So we went Saturday night and hunted hard.
For a brief moment I could hear nature through all the noise.

Holy smakerolies.  Did you run into a fox convention?  That was all one night?

"Predators are either active & feeding, semi-active & callable, or utterly inactive & then practically speaking, no call is needed; we're just taking our guns for a walk. We can & should get used to it, & follow their leed cuz they just ain't eager nor apt to follow our’s any time soon!

We were using a new light called the carnivore 5 an two coyote tlr lights for scanning. Next time I will use a carnivore 5 for scanning and shooting. We ended up shooting 16 foxes and had one miss and one cripple go down a hole 5 feet away. We had one with a gut shot go on to property that we could not go on. Brian tried to run it down but it was faster then he was.  We only had a few at first come in that we could not shoot at. We killed almost everything we saw once we got rolling.
I did not miss any. :-)

Foxtrot
Brian and I took turns shooting, so 8 were shot with a 223 and 8 with 17 rem. We took all body shots. Only one was shot in the head, it was a running shot. The 223 and the 17 did about the same in damage. If we hit the gut area both guns opens up fox. Good straight on shots low in chest no damage, broad side shots in the chest no damage.
For a brief moment I could hear nature through all the noise.
