Another Rifle and so little time, but it is not my fault.
« on: April 14, 2012, 09:06:56 PM »
Took the wife and her Chessie to my camp on Tuesday to check the new Bathroom.  It was greatso with time on my hands I took her to Lion Country for something for her "Puppy".  Just got in the door and I heard something crying and calling my name.   It was a Remy #7 Predator in 17 Fireball and my wife adopted it for me.  It's not my fault,  you guys have been speaking well of the 17 and I'm tired of making 2 Foxes out of 1 w/my .204 Rugers.  I will need some advise on loadinf for this puppy.  Dick

Ahhh, I'm jealous!
"Predators are either active & feeding, semi-active & callable, or utterly inactive & then practically speaking, no call is needed; we're just taking our guns for a walk. We can & should get used to it, & follow their leed cuz they just ain't eager nor apt to follow our’s any time soon!

Great find!! I have that same gun and love it.  Have not had any time to do much reloading for it but what it is worth I shoot Rems accurate tip 20g and have no problem with fur.

Love the 17 Fireball. Mine is a 700 and was free, minus the few tickets on last year's July 4th raffle.
Gotta be in it to win it.

H335 powder, 205 match primers and 20 grain Hornady Vmax bullets will be a good start.  Make small increments when working up a load.  Good luck!

Great caliber for a fox/bobcat/coyote gun!  Much inherently more accurate than it's rival the .22 Hornet too.  I use H322 with unbelievable accuracy for a Remington 700 CDL.  It is the most accurate gun I own and I have a few.   ;).
I have found the Berger Match TARGET in 25 grain good for fox.  I also load 30 grain Kimber Gold bullets if I am only hunting coyotes.  PM me if you want my load for the 25 grainers as I feel pretty good about the accuracy of what I am loading.  TFC seems to have great luck with the 20 grainers too.  I don't like the 30 grainers on fox unless you would load them down a bit.  My .17 is my favorite rifle...be careful they are contagious!

I have to say Mike that mine is my favorite rifle as well.  When I designed my rifle I actually had it built around the 25 grainers but, the 20's have done so well for me over the years I actually haven't fooled much with the 25 grain.  Best fur gun I have ever owned and shoots very accurate.  Gotta love those 17s.

Thanks for info.  Have 335 & 322.  Bride went for 2 boxes of  Rem-Premier 20 Gr Accutips.  (Only thing that she Griped about was 28.95 a box but I haven't heard about it for a day so I guess that she is over it).  Put a 2X10 Weaver that I had lying around on it for a start.  Its off to the bench in a couple of days.  Will get back then.  Thanks,  Dick

I have the exact same gun. It's very accurate and fur friendly.  I might have to sell it if I end up buying a piece of real estate. Brushwolf has first chance at if I do. You will love the gun if it shoots like mine does. I had a friend adjust the trigger on mine to boost my accuracy. Can cover 3 shots with a nickel at 100 yards if I am calm and do my part.

I have a dozen things screw up my range time but we finally got the new puppy out.  She is definitely a keeper.  4 shots  to get 25 yards then 3 for 100.  Checked it @ 200 w/a head wind from 1100 (3 to5).  Got 31 FL's left and she shoots where I aim.  Got Brass & 20 gr. V-Maxes @ Grices so I will play w/loads but am not changing anything until I use up the FL's.  Thanks for the tips from Y'all.  Dick
