So after an eventful time trying to change sounds on my spitfire tonight I finally got out. First farm nothing. Got to my second spot and spooked 3 deer which usually is a bad omen for me. I set up and started with Lightning Jack blasting and toned it down after a few minutes. I caught an eye coming up the wall and had to reposition my shooting sticks. It was a nice grey coming in fast. I lip squeaked and it stopped right at my decoy and proceeded to smell it(35 yds). I took the shot and missed. It ran to the tree line and I got it to stop again with lip squeaks I took the shot and thought it went down(40 yds). I called for a few more minutes and went over and there was no fox. I took my red lense off to check for blood and couldn't find any. As I put the red lense back on I caught eyes about 75 yds on the wall looking at me. Pulled my gun up and turned on my Kill light and the thing flicked off which has been a problem of late. I messed with the light for a second and it popped back on. The fox turned and started going up the wall and I lip squeaked it to a stop again. Took the shot and finally a solid hit and recovery.
I just put a new scope on my .223 and it was .5 inches high at 100yds. So I am assuming I just got excited and shot over it. I hit it with a handloaded varmit grenade. It left a dime sized hole going in the neck, but no exit.
