Caught my first Foxpro show on the tube
« on: January 16, 2011, 10:13:27 PM »

I got to watch my first Foxpro hunt with Abner and Jay in Arizona... Enjoyed it and even learned a few things that make sense that Abner and Jay brought forth in the show.    I said to myself now that sounds logical and I'm going to use it for calling coyotes or even change my strategy now on sounds...I liked it so much that I triggered the Comcast HD box to record the Foxpro show everytime it airs... This way I don't have to stay up to 1:00 AM or miss a show now..

I have caught all of em so far.  only thing I really didnt agree with was the lowering the sound thing.  but thats why they are on tv and I am not.   ;)

I don't have the outdoor channel ordered but I will order it as soon as I see that they will be hunting in the east, I caught a good Georgia hunt with Fred Eichler the other day that was good. Are they saying to turn thew volume down on the call Ben? An old member told me to do that one time and was was desperate and tried it and called a fox in a couple times with bird sounds and the tracks indicated that he came from over 200 yards away to the woodpecker or titmouse sound under the 8 minute mark with the highest volume being 10 for about 8 seconds before I turned it back down to 4.

Jay said not to turn the volume down when you call a coyote in.  To leave it the same because that is what the coyote came in too.  If you drop the volume it makes them check up.  I honestly go to a squeeker normally when i first see a animal if possible.

The other thing was Abner said to use high pitched sounds in high winds... He said that high pitched sounds travel better in windy conditions then low pitched sounds.. See I use jackrabbit a lot and that's kind of a low pitched sound.. I think he used the example of a dog barking as something that would not travel in the wind well... Also I think he said to use sounds like VOLES to make it buck the wind...  I just don't know?
Kirk always said to use Canine distress sounds in windy conditions...Me I like to use the snowshoe rabbit,  jackrabbit, and the woodpecker.  I suppose the baby woodpecker would be a nice high pitched sound...

I kind of like Jay recommendation about how people lower the sounds when they, coyotes are already coming in....Knowing how coyotes are so smart here I'm going to make sure I try that.. Not to play with the sounds once you see one coming in... Make sense if they are coming to the sounds why lower it...Keep them just right at the same volume and or pitch...

When I  saw them sitting with high grass in front of them and using Harris Bi pods...I said to myself...Gee those guys should be standing up and using a shooting rest like Ernie Wilson,  Bog, or Primos Tripod.. or  hunting from higher ground looking down or even sitting on a mound.  Oops mound that could  be an ant hill and you don't want to do that!!!

By the way the show is not called Foxpro...It's called "Fast and Furious."  So all the channel searching with the remote will prove negative if you key in Foxpro..

I have Comcast DVR.. Nice to see now that everytime Foxpro shows airs it records automatically for me.. Like I said I can watch it anytime there after at my leisure.

I do give the show the  thumbs up thats for sure..

Just watching the show and how they set up is a learning experience.  Did you notice that even with the white light of the camera crew the fox still came to the call.. All these years I used very little light for scanning.. It has just been this year with the craze for the Kill Light that I have also gone to use RED SPOT LIGHTS with 1,000,000 candle power instead of the puny little Nitelite Headlite on my head..See predator hunting is changing by leaps and bounds with the new technology.. Kind of make all of the fox hunting how too books obsolete in a sense on certain sections of the books.. LOL LOL  Especially in the use of lights....

Lets see, I think I might have said that more light is better then the current lights people used 100 times. I stopped reading them books on lights at night years ago. I think I need to wright a book. :>)

Buckwheat you do need to write a book on lights..  Yep...I'm going to start to do what you said to do with the Kill Light on the gun too...Now everyone is going to be wondering what you told me to do when your calling and the kill light is on your gun and your waiting for the predator to come into the call.   LOL LOL LOL

Na, no sense telling anyone. Only after it is on TV or in a book will anyone think it is the correct thing to do. lol  Besides what about my book, that is on page 76 art. 5. section c. Now I would have to remove that section. With all the information given out over the years my book is down to one page and that is including the picture.

them lights they are using are red lights.  it looks like a white light though with the night shot that most cameras have.  watch hunting the night shift and it appears the same as well.  my sony is the same way.  red looks like greenish white.

prob my fav episode so far.

I just watched the show. It was only the second one I got to see. I think it was a great show, finally hunters in pa hunting pa style.
I talked to Steve and they used all light force lights with red lens. They have a good night shot video camera.

yeah I knew that ernie.  I talked to them a lil bit earlier this season on white lights and they said they always use red.  sometimes 3-4 lightforces to video as well.  but everyone is red lens.  I just pointed it out because it looked like UB thought they were using white light.  in face I bet that the light from the camera wasn't visable to the fox.  these night shot cameras use a IR illuminator similar to the illuminators used for night vision.  it looks like a small red led in the front of the camera.  but not bright enough to actually see at any distance.

There camera they used up until now every thing was red and you could not film very far even with 3 lights running.  Now it looks like they can film a long ways out. Technology, what a great thing.
