Well it ended as a shorter night than anticipated, still got about 4 hours worth of calling in. Went out and did a set at an old log landing hoping it would produce, wind was coming down the mountain so I setup crosswind of the caller off the road maybe 30 yards, real thick stuff with good sign and lots of sightings, just wasn't meant to be. Ran the set for around 45 minutes before calling it quits on that one.
Second set almost got interesting, we had lightning off in the distance (so we thought) so we setup with the caller in the field approx 75x75 and setup crosswind again about 30 yrds from the caller sat for around 10 minutes and turned the call off, sat in the calm for about 15 minutes before moving to some coyote vocalizations ran that for around 3-5 minutes, and muted it, had to pick my heart up off the ground I'm fairly hard of hearing and I thought I heard some return vocalizations but it turned out to just be a screech owl. Sat for about 15 more minutes hit the locator to see if there was anything hanging around or not, wasn't the case so we gathered the call and started heading to the next set and it just started pouring and lightning we hightailed it to the truck in record time ended up soaked and entertained.
Can't kill em from the couch and we sure did give it a try. Gotta start somewhere so why not do trial and error.
Sorry no pics this time boys.
Ryan.
