Title: Reloading Bench Setup Question / Help
Post by: TheBig1 on June 06, 2016, 03:20:56 PM
Ok, so I got everything put together as far as buying the necessary equipment.  No the help that I need is how to set it up to be an efficient reloading system.

Here is a picture of my bench to help. I do have a powder dispenser too, so where would I mount that also?

The bottom line is, how would YOU set it up?

;) ;) What works for me may not work for you  :( :( :( and I tend to be cautious when reloading and speed is not a factor... ??? ??? ??? guess you could say I'm slow....but seating the bullet is the last major step, case prep(primer pocket clean out, case length trimmed), seating primers and what tool are you using for powder scale (throw or digital)? I use digital. What flow you want depends on you, but don't skip any steps. Including measuring the final round's length ;) ;) ;)

Thanks Goose. For right now I have an old scale.

Do you have a set of test weights to ensure your scale is accurate? If not it's a small investment, and highly recommended....you don't want too much powder in any case if the book doesn't call for it..once you are sure of your scale you shouldn't hafta deal with it again as long as the scale is level.

;) ;) ;) ;) Once you get past the initial investment  :P :P :P :P and you start production of loaded rounds  :o :o :o :o then you will feel the satisfaction of being able to do it on your own  8) 8) 8) 8) 8) and you can fine tune your load to each rifle/handgun you own.... :D :D :D :D :D Factory ammo won't be anygood anymore!! ;D ;D ;D

??? ??? ??? When you start working up loads....there is a lot of experience on this site  :) :) :) :) and equally as many opinions of various load combos..we even have some of the older books that have hotter loads, since the current editions have scaled back on a lot of powder charges due to law suits. :) But then the older books don't include some of the newer powders either... :-X :-X :-X :-X I reload just about everything I have from 22 Hornet to 338 Win Mag and there are a lot in between those... :-X :-X :-X :-X

I plan on reloading several myself but not too awful many. I think that I'm going to start with 223 since I have everything except bullets for it.

I have tons of brass and primers. So I have to find a place to buy bulk bullets for the best price.

:( :( :( I do not recommend bulk quantities until you find the ultimate combination for each gun; of bullet, primer, case, and powder....you may buy something that doesn't work at all  :P :P :P :P

Per the Sierra book; 42 Grs of that will push those 40 Gr HPs at 4300 FPS...and the Sierra 55Grs need 37.1 Grs for 3700 FPS....those are both Max loads

Thanks, I'll be loading them at least 3 of each up with Varget and trying them out.

I would make one suggestion here.  DO NOT start with a max load, check you fired case after each shot, any split necks and/or cratered primers are indications that your load is too hot, also bolt should open with minimum resistance.

I guess that was more than one suggestion.

I finally got the press mounted. My 22-250 dies should be arriving tomorrow.  I'll be sizing and decapping tomorrow.  I need a funnel for loading powser. I should have that in a day or two.
