Title: LED Lights
Post by: Anonymous on July 08, 2007, 02:42:58 PM
I got one of those that staps to your head and it's pretty bright but I don't know about seeing eyes. I do have one of the ones that clip to the bill of your hat. It's got 3 leds and it comes in white, red, and green. I love this thing. Hands free to do other things. Now a gun mounted light with LED's, HMMMMMMMMMM !!!!! Just throw the consept out there and someone will come up with one with a builtin battery. Totally self contained on the gun with no wires or external batteries.

my personal style of calling at night is to use my red LED headlamp to scan for eyes, then use the larger light when the critter is about 50yds or so away for I.D. and the shot.

i prefer the 'less is best' idea for scanning...the LED headlamp i use can get eyes to reflect back to 150-175yds. but i have been eyeing up that shotgun LED light by optronics. only problem with that is reaching out ahead of my shooting stix to hit the push button switch on the cap to turn it on.

i was just talking w/Longhair awhile ago and he mentioned this shotgun LED light that Buckwheat posted and i got all worked up thinkin there was somthin new on the market that i didn't know about....till i got online and googled the GII 103 light and realized i just seen that light at the Nite Lite website last week. if this gun mounted light goes through....i'm gonna work on designing my own self-contained GML out of 20+ LED's to shoot with. maybe a 2 or 3 'D' cell Maglite with a modification on the bulb houseing to hold all them LED's. and a modification on the switch to turn it on via a cord as the switches on Maglites are up front.

I typed in red led lights, holey crap there are a ton of them out there in clusters all ready. I not sure how bright they would be or how to direct the light. The clusters seam more for people seeing the lights rather then projecting the light for people to see with.
But definitely an interesting project to work on.

Well just tried the light after dark, the light did work but less then 1/3 the amount of distance I am use to for spotting eyes and the eyes are not as easy for me to pick up. My eyes are not as good as they should be and that might be some of the problem I have with low power lights. I could use this light if I really had to in open areas but I think I would miss a lot of chances at critters. For close up work in the woods they might be ok, I just felt under powered on picking things up wile messing around. I had a rabbit and a cat in my yard as test critters.
