I just got back in from hunting and can say it was a pretty good one. I started out around 6:45 and within 10 seconds I had one coming in. he ended up coming all the way to 10 feet away. and I wiffed the shot. at ten feet. I tried once more when he did the deadly look back and missed again. I took it as getting excited for being the first fox of the year. went and did another stand and called some deer in. I readjusted my light on the tripod because I was having problems with it. Got it readjusted and decided to make one more stand because I figured something was up with me missing that fox twice.
I got setup and started calling. I hear something behind me and look and see a set of eyes right behind me. I figured house cat because we frequently call them in on this farm. and then I see a tail. a stripped tail. Its a dang pole cat. I threw a stick at it and it waddled off a few feet and then came back he was really interested in the sound i was playing. I turned the call off and waited till he got down the fence row and started calling again. First I see one set of eyes then two sets. both bouncing in. Hot dang I got a double coming in. The first one disappeared for a bit so I focused on the one that was hung up out there 100 yds or better. I seen the other step out about 50 yds away and i let one fly and seen him drop in the scope. I threw another round in the chamber and found the other fox. I couldn't get him to come in closer so I let another fly. It sounded like a hit. I walked out and found the first fox and dang near stepped on em. Now I have been shooting for the shoulder for the past year now. The fox I dropped was broadside and I got her in the bottom jaw. dropped her in her tracks but It bothers me now. not wanting to educate anymore fox I called it a night. hopefully tomorrow finds the scope shooting on and I just pulled the shots. which will make me feel better. They are running in full force tonight fellas.
and one more thing all night I was using a white light and it didnt seem to bother them. I got some ok footage of the double. Once the camera comes to room temp I will put up the clip. hopefully they were not suicidal tonight and it didnt matter what light I used I will keep on using a white light till I notice them not responding well to the call.
